Bloomfield Chargers beat Troy Athens in a Last Minute Thriller!

In a game played on Saturday at The Detroit Skating Center, the Bloomfield United Chargers defeated Troy Athens by a final score of 4-3. The Chargers tied the game with just: 30 seconds to go in the third period then won the game with just: 18 seconds left in the game. 

Troy got on the board first with a goal from Brad Merola at the 2:30 mark of the first period.  Nathan Gurzell got the assist.  The Chargers tied the game at 9:56 in the first period.  The goal was scored by Bryce McClelland.  Connor Holman and Mike McGovern got the assists. Athens took the lead at 13:41 of the first with a goal from Nathan Gurzell.  Brad Merola and Ian Marchand got the assists. 

Early in the second period the Chargers Captain Chase Smith tied the game with a goal at 3:39.  The effort was unassisted.  Athens then  took the lead at 12:11 in the second with a goal from Tony Gaioni.  Mike Abels and Kosta Karabetsos got the helpers. 

The Chargers pulled their goalie in favor of the extra attacker with less than a minute to go in regulation. The effort paid off when the Chargers tied the game with a goal from sophomore Johnny Artemenko.  The goal was assisted by Chase Smith and Ari Sternberg.  The goal was scored at 16:30 of the third. 

: 18 seconds later with just: 12 seconds left on the clock, Assistant Captain Kevin Barnett scored the winning goal to give the Chargers a 4-3 victory. 

After the game Chargers Head Coach Bruce McAlister said “The momentum definitely shifted late in the game.  After Johnny tied it up, I felt good about our ability to win the game.  I was glad to see Kevin get the game winner.” 

The Chargers next game is this Wednesday at the Troy Sports Center where they play division rivals Avondale.  The game is scheduled for 8:00 pm.
