Allen Olender and his colleagues are planning more than just their clients’ financial futures. He is planning to send 1,000 Thank You, Christmas and Hanukah cards to 1,000 American troops serving overseas. The Farmington Hills-based financial advisor and his Wells Fargo Advisors colleagues from across Metro Detroit are inviting the public to sign the cards and express their gratitude to the troops.

The cards will be available for the public to sign at Emagine Theater locations in Novi, Royal Oak and Woodhaven from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 18. Also on October 18, the public can sign cards from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Wells Fargo Advisors offices in Ann Arbor, Birmingham, Clinton Township, Grosse Pointe Woods, Farmington Hills, Northville and Troy.

Olender will collect and distribute the signed cards in time for Christmas or Hanukah arrival to U.S. troops serving in United States Africa Command (AFRICOM).

Olender has made the distribution of these cards a personal passion since 2009. He is adding “Hero Packs” to this year’s initiative to make an even greater impact. “Hero Packs” are backpacks filled with mementos and items designed to help connect military kids with their deployed parent. Some of the “thank you” and holiday cards collected through the campaign will be inserted in the “Hero Packs” and distributed to children with families serving AFRICOM.

“This card campaign is a small gesture that means a great deal to the American men and women serving overseas,” Olender said. “They are the very reason we in Metro Detroit and across the country enjoy the many freedoms that make our quality of life possible. The notes I receive back from the troops who receive the cards are genuinely appreciative and inspiring.”
