1. Give Blood, Save A Life
The San Marino Club and the American Red Cross will host a blood donation drive from 2-8 p.m. Monday at the club, 1685 E. Big Beaver. Monday's event is part of a weeklong drive to help supplement critically low blood supplies in the area. Blood donations may be made by appointment or walk in. Additional times and locations this week include:
- 2-8 p.m. July 19, Athens High School Cafeteria, 4333 John R.
- 9 a.m.-9 p.m. July 20 at the Troy Community Center, 3179 Livernois Room 305-305.
- 9 a.m.-9 p.m. July 21 at the Troy Community Center, Room 304-305
2. Give Food, Feed A Child
Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan on Monday kicks off its 17th Annual Food Fight to Tackle Childhood Hunger. The food drive runs through July 29, but you can donate food or money today or every day. Food donations may be left at collection bins located at the east and west entrances of Troy City Hall, the Troy Public Library or the Troy Community Center.
3. Attend Meeting, be an Informed Voter
City officials and Troy Public Library staff will host a community meeting 7-9 p.m. Monday at the Community of Christ Church, 3830 Crooks, to answer questions about the proposed library millage. Troy residents are being asked to vote Aug. 2 on a 0.7-mill levy for five years that would provide a dedicated funding source for the Troy Public Library. Additional meetings include:

- Wednesday 1:30 p.m., Troy Community Center, Room 303
4. Help Homeless, Win a Car
Grace Centers of Hope will raffle off a 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle with unique "chrome illusion" paint that changes from gold to green, then to blue in the light. Tickets are $20 each, and proceeds go to help provide food, clothing and shelter for the homeless in southeast Michigan. Tickets for the Sept. 11 drawing are available at Grace Gospel Fellowship in Pontiac or on the web at www.gracecentersofhope.org/CarRaffle.html.
5. Go to the Zoo, Thank a Keeper
Help celebrate National Zookeeper Week (July 17-23) by spending a day at the Detroit Zoological Park. National Zookeeper Week is sponsored by the American Association of Zookeepers, a nonprofit volunteer organization made up of professional zookeepers and other interested persons from around the country who are dedicated to professional animal care and wildlife conservation. Zookeeper appreciation week is celebrated every year during the third week of July.
