City of Troy to Host Veterans Day Ceremony on Sunday
The event honors all who have served and will feature keynote speaker Nancy Susick, a 24-year veteran of the Navy Reserve and current President of Beaumont Hospital, Troy.

The Troy Veterans Memorial Committee will host their annual Troy Veterans Day Ceremony at Troy Veterans Plaza in front of City Hall this Sunday, Nov. 11 at 11 am.
The program will include a memorial brick dedication, the Raising of Colors and the Laying of the Memorial Wreath on the Veterans Monument by honorary guests. Music will be provided by the Heritage Concert Band of Troy.
The public is invited to bring individual flowers, bouquets, small flags and other appropriate mementos to be placed on the walk of honor or at the base of the Veterans Memorial in honor of a loved one or all veterans. The sale of commemorative bricks ($60 each) will continue and the Veterans Memorial Committee will dedicate them at future Memorial Day and Veterans Day ceremonies. This year's keynote speaker is Nancy Susick, M.S.N., R.N., Senior Vice President of Beaumont Health System and President of Beaumont Hospital, Troy. She oversees the operations of the 406-bed Troy hospital and its ambulatory, diagnostic and surgery centers.
Prior to her appointment as president in April 2012, she was vice president, chief operating officer and chief nursing officer at Beaumont, Troy, responsible for operations and nursing practice. She chaired the hospital’s Magnet Committee and Nurse Executive Leadership Council and numerous operation councils. Under her leadership, Beaumont, Troy achieved Magnet designation, the highest of recognition for nursing excellence.
Susick has been a registered nurse since 1986 and has held various staff, nursing leadership and administrative positions at Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak and Troy, since 1986.
She recently retired from the United States Navy Reserve, holding the rank of Captain after 24 years of service.
Susick earned a Master of Science degree in Nursing from Oakland University and a Bachelor of Science in degree in Nursing from Mercy College of Detroit. She serves as chair of the Oakland University School of Nursing Advisory Board. She is also active as a volunteer in the Troy and Avondale school systems, serving as a mentor for high school students.
Susick is a member of the Michigan Organization of Nurse Executives, the American College of Health Care Executives and the Naval Reserve Association.

Can we please only hear from the combat veterans? I mean come on. No offense intended, but being in the navy reserves as a nurse is a far cry from being infantry.
Liberal Troy couldn't handle the truth about combat. Best if they have this woman speak. Next year maybe they can have some air force band member talk...

Next year, we can rename it "Infantry-Combat-Veterans Day". Or maybe "Veterans-whom-Ginger-Headed-deems-worthy-to-honor Day". I'm sure it will be so much more awesome.

Ginger, when I was a kid my family and I had to spend a lot of time in military hospitals (we were a military family). The nurses, corpsman, and physical therapists, all service members, did incredible work with wounded veterans. I am sure the vets were very appreciative of their work, support and comfort. I know their families were. Medical personnel serve along with combat troops, and today Navy and Air Force serve along with Army and USMC personnel. So don't belittle Capt. Susick or other medical military.
