'Designated Driver' Arrested for Drunken Driving in Troy
The 27-year-old Detroit woman had four passengers in the vehicle when she was arrested.
A Troy officer responded to the area of Interstate 75 and Big Beaver just after 4 a.m. Monday after a citizen reported seeing a vehicle swerving and using several lanes.
According to a Troy Police media release, the officer stopped the vehicle, which was occupied by five people; only the driver and one passenger were awake.
The driver told the officer she was the designated driver. According to police, the 27-year-old Detroit woman had slurred speech, bloodshot and glassy eyes, smelled like alcohol and failed sobriety tests. Officers also found a half-full bottle of vodka between the driver's seat and the door.
The woman's preliminary breath test results were 0.16 – twice the legal limit. She was arrested for operating while intoxicated, driving while license suspended and open intoxicants in a motor vehicle. A 20-year-old passenger was also cited for minor consuming alcohol.
