Drunken Driving, Driving Under the Influence Incidents: Dec. 7-10

The following information was obtained from the Troy Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The following information about recent incidents of drunken driving and driving under the influence of drugs is taken directly from the most recent Troy Police Department media release. This information may be edited for clarity or style. Note: In Michigan, the Blood Alcohol Content legal limit is .08 percent.

I-75 & Rochester, 12:49 a.m. on Dec. 7, 2012

A Troy Officer observed a vehicle that was weaving heavily and on two occasions veered onto the left shoulder of the roadway. The vehicle was stopped and the officer found that the driver had very glassy eyes, slurred speech and smelled of intoxicants. The 33-year-old male from Grand Blanc failed sobriety tests and was arrested for “Operating While Intoxicated.” A blood test was administered and results are pending.

Big Beaver & Livernois, 7:25 a.m. on Dec. 7, 2012

Troy Officers were advised that a hit and run non-injury accident had just occurred at Big Beaver and Livernois. The license plate on the fleeing vehicle registered to a home in Troy. A Troy Officer responded to the home and arrived there just as the driver of the suspect vehicle was exiting her car. She had slurred speech, watery eyes and smelled strongly of intoxicants. The 24-year-old woman eventually admitted to being in an accident and fleeing the scene. After displaying poor balance she was arrested for “Operating While Intoxicated” and “Failing to Stop and Identify at an Accident.”  Breath test results were .19 percent.

Maple & Coolidge, 11:24 p.m. on Dec. 7, 2012

A citizen reported that a vehicle that had been weaving had hit a street sign and kept going. A Troy Sergeant responded to the home where the vehicle was registered and spoke with the driver. The 40-year-old Troy woman was unsteady on her feet, had bloodshot/glassy eyes and smelled of intoxicants. Her car was damaged and she stated she knew she had “hit something” but couldn’t “remember what.” After failing sobriety tests she was arrested for “Failing to Report an Accident” and “Operating While Intoxicated.” Breath test results were .20 percent.

Rochester & South, 12:21 a.m. on Dec. 8, 2012

A Troy Officer stopped a vehicle that was weaving and crossed over the left lane marker. The driver smelled of intoxicants, had bloodshot eyes and failed sobriety tests. The 41-year-old Rochester Hills male was arrested for “Operating While Intoxicated.” Breath test results were .15 percent. His vehicle was turned over to a passenger who was sober.

Dequindre & Elliott, 2:43 a.m. on Dec. 8, 2012

When a vehicle was pulled over for a routine traffic violation a Troy Officer found that the driver had bloodshot eyes and smelled of intoxicants. The 21-year-old Warren man failed sobriety tests and was arrested for “Operating While Intoxicated.” A blood test was administered.

Rochester & Long Lake, 4:47 a.m. on Dec. 8, 2012

A Troy Officer observed a vehicle that was speeding. When the officer initiated a traffic stop the driver began to pull into a plaza then swerved back to the left and stopped in the right through lane. The 56-year-old woman had slurred speech, bloodshot eyes and smelled of intoxicants. She was wearing a coat and a nightgown. The Rochester Hills resident stated that she had left the house around midnight to get gas and had made a wrong turn. The officer noted that the vehicle had been stopped at 4:47 am. The driver had very poor balance and three different prescription medications (controlled substances) were found in her car. She was arrested for “Operating under the Influence of Drugs.” A blood test was administered and results are pending.

Falcon & Homestead, 11:41 p.m. on Dec. 8, 2012

A Troy Officer was dispatched when a citizen called to report that someone had hit her car which had been parked on the street. The caller stated she thought that the driver may have been drinking. The responding officer found the responsible vehicle and discovered the driver had slurred speech, smelled of intoxicants and had matched a button on her coat to the wrong button hole. The 58-year-old Troy woman failed sobriety tests and was arrested for “Operating While Intoxicated.” Breath test results were .11 percent.

I-75 & Adams, 1:03 a.m. on Dec. 9, 2012

A Troy Officer was just completing a traffic stop on the right shoulder of I-75 when a vehicle sped by in the right lane, at a high rate of speed, rocking the patrol vehicle. The officer caught up with and pulled over the speeding vehicle. The driver had glassy/bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and smelled of intoxicants. The 36-year-old Lake Orion man has a Concealed Pistol Permit and had a loaded handgun in the vehicle. After displaying poor balance and failing sobriety tests he was arrested for “Operating While Intoxicated” and “Possession of a Firearm While Intoxicated.” Breath test results were .10 percent.

I-75 & Rochester, 2:07 a.m. on Dec. 9, 2012

A Troy Officer was dispatched to the area when a citizen reported a suspected drunk driver. The Officer located the suspect vehicle and noted that the vehicle was weaving and using two lanes. When the vehicle was stopped a strong odor of marijuana came from within the car. The driver had bloodshot/glassy eyes, slurred speech and very poor balance. The 30-year-old Sterling Heights woman failed sobriety tests and a marijuana pipe was found in her car. She was arrested for “Operating under the Influence of Drugs” and “Possession of Narcotic Paraphernalia.” Once in the Troy lock-up the woman stated that she was also currently taking two medications which are controlled substances. A blood test was administered and results are pending.

Rochester & Player, 2:16 a.m. on Dec. 9, 2012

When Troy Officers stopped a vehicle that was swerving they found the driver smelled of intoxicants and had bloodshot eyes. The 30-year-old Iron River male admitted to consuming “5–6 beers.” After failing sobriety tests he was arrested for “Operating While Intoxicated 2nd Offense.” Breath test results were .17 percent.

I-75 & Maple, 2 a.m. on Dec. 10, 2012

A Troy Officer saw a vehicle pull onto the shoulder of I-75 and turn off its lights. When the officer stopped to check on the vehicle the driver was asleep. When he was awakened, the 65-year-old man had red eyes and slurred speech. He failed sobriety tests and was arrested. Marijuana was found in his vehicle. A breath test was administered and results were .10%. He was charged with “Operating While Intoxicated 2nd Offense,” “Possession of Marijuana” and “Driving While License Suspended.” The Troy resident also has two outstanding warrants for his arrest stemming from previous Troy incidents.
