Farmers Market Profile: Salsas, Marinades, Mustards and More
Holly-based Sansonetti Sauces sells a variety of special sauces at the Clawson Farmers Market.
Joe Sansonetti says he knows how to make a good sauce.
"I get people hooked on this stuff," said Sansonetti, 58.
If you stop by his table at the Clawson Farmers Market, you'll see different flavors of barbecue sauces, pasta sauces, mustards, salsas, salad dressings and a special Jamaican marinade called Neon Palms— perfect for chicken, shrimp and sauce, he said.
Sansonetti has been in the food industry for 20 years, starting as a restaurant chef making sauces.
"I have over a thousand different recipes for sauces," Sansonetti said. "I know what I'm doing."
In 2005, he and his wife, Kathy, got into the business of selling a variety of sauces.
They now sell sauces at farmers markets throughout Michigan for $4-$6 a jar, he said. Sansonetti said his jarred sauces have a shelf life of two to three years.
Sansonetti has even won an award for his roasted red pepper mustard in the 2010 Napa Valley Worldwide Mustard Competition.
So if you're shopping for fresh vegetables at the Clawson Farmers Market to cook a meal, stop at Sansonetti Sauces. You may find a sauce that will go perfectly with the dish your making.
