Feds Say Highland Park Officers Transported Cocaine from Oakland Mall
The FBI announced charges against four Highland Park officers whom federal officials said transported what they thought was cocaine from Oakland Mall to Taylor, according to reports in the Detroit News and Detroit Free Press.
Oakland Mall in Troy figures in a scandal involving four Highland Park police officers whom the FBI said accepted bribes and conspired to distribute cocaine.
Federal authorities said that two Highland Park officers—Price Montgomery and Anthony Bynum—transported what they thought was two kilos of cocaine from Oakland Mall to Taylor on Nov. 15, 2012, according to a report in the Detroit News.
Authorities also said Montgomery, Bynum, Shawn Williams and Craig Clayton moved what they thought was four kilos of cocaine from Oakland Mall on Jan. 23, 2013.
Federal officials announced the charges against the four police officers at a press conference Friday, according to the Detroit Free Press. The four men are expected to be arraigned later Friday.

This is why I have avoided Oakland Mall as a place to shop for years. It is no longer the nice safe mall it once was.

Somerset is quickly going down the same route unless people wise up and start imposing the same sorts of anti-gang regulations like other malls have - i.e., no large groups of unattended teenagers and tighter security, such as metal detectors at the mall entrances themselves. Unfortunately, it's going to come down to political correctness vs. customers' safety. All of the burbs are under attack by criminals coming out of Detroit, Flint, and Pontiac, preying on the locals' lack of awareness and their having been lulled into a false sense of security by years of relative peace. Those were the times before the economic collapse - those days won't return anytime soon. Because of this, criminals are running rampant in the burbs. Troy, Bloomfield Hills, Sterling Heights, and the like are quickly turning into an extension of the blight which is Detroit. Unless you folks put a stop to it, I hope you're willing to arm yourselves to the teeth and put bars on your windows.
Sleep tight...

I would have to agree with you. I really don't do malls for a number of reasons but don't feel as threatened at Somerset as Oakland Mall. I grew up in Detroit so I never let my guard down even though I live in the burbs. Sure we are going to be the target because there's nothing left in Detroit to steal. It's all out here. Agree that everyone is so concerned about political correctness that some things are getting out of control. So, I will continue to avoid the malls.

As if crime doesnt happen in the burbs. I am so sick of Detroit being the excuse becuase you people are not perfect either and the economic downturn has affected people in the Burbs as well. You have your criminals as well and the sterotypical, racist slanted comments are pugnant

we'll if it was not cocaine. no real drugs= "en·trap·ment"
the luring by a law-enforcement agent of a person into committing a crime. 2. an act or process of entrapping. 3. a state of being entrapped.
case dismissed!

I don't see how the focus of this should be shopping malls. It should be on the fact that POLICE OFFICERS were transporting drugs. The drugs could have been taken from someone anywhere, it just so happened to be Oakland Mall. This has occurred at many more surprising places. Even in the rural areas where I grew up around Clarkston people would deal cocaine near schools. Shouldn't be a surprise, it's not just a problem for gang members.

Yeah what fools comment about the malls and leave the comments of the corrupt cops out. Maybe Detroit and everywhere else would be safer with better police. Maybe just maybe if every community worked together and better parenting and closer relations with your kids things would get better.. Teaching the principle of right and wrong.. Oh yeah did I mention, get the corrupt officials and safety etc. off the payroll and fix the problems... We all need some faith regardless of what it is, we all need some faith and values and morals..
