Royal Oak has a St Patricks Day Parade replete with vomiting and falling down youth right after, along with other major holiday parades. While it has a nice "Spooktacular" for the kiddies and their parents there is nothing for us adult children on Halloween except to go to the bars, or watch the police patrols and the cheap last minute get ups at Leos around bar closing time. Other cities throughout the country have great parades, my favorite was in Greenwich Village NYC with stilts, broadway quality costumes, drag queens, pets in crazy get ups and last a loud bang with puff of smoke on top of the Washington Square monument with a devil in costume waving his pitchfork to the crowd below. Royal Oak and Ferndale should get together and have a grand parade down Main Street. If the Stardream Fountain was decently lit and repaired it could end there, or it could end at the Farmers Market with a grand party including a flash mob zombie dance to Michael Jackson's Thriller. What a waste of Royal Oak's creative population not to have a great Halloween, and we would not need sponsors, or an outside event manager. Just a little ambition and possibly a little help from the DDA for extra police.
