Funeral arrangements are set for 12-year-old Sean Taglione of Troy who died early Sunday morning from injuries sustained in a traffic accident Saturday.
There will be a funeral mass at noon Thursday at the National Shrine of the Little Flower in Royal Oak. Visitation begins at 11 a.m.
Sean, a sixth-grader at Boulan Park Middle School, was struck by a Volvo on Coolidge Highway about 6 p.m. Saturday. Police say Sean's parents contacted them shortly before the accident about their missing son.
Sean had autism and wandered away from home, Troy Police spokesman Andy Breidenich said Tuesday. "He wasn’t incorrigible or running away," Breidenich said.
The driver, a 44-year-old Royal Oak man, is not expected to face charges, Breidenich said. Speed and alcohol were not factors in the accident.
Counselors were at Sean's school this week helping students and teachers cope with the tragic death of their friend, classmate and student.
The family is welcoming memorial donations at FAR Conservatory, 1669 W. Maple, Birmingham, MI 48009 or The Judson Center–Autism Connection, 4410 W. 13 Mile Rd., Royal Oak, MI 48073.
