Krispy Kreme Gives Away Free Doughnuts for National Donut Day
Several Troy-area doughnut shops are participating in National Donut Day on Friday.
National Donut Day is today, and in honor of their big day, doughnut shops across the nation — including one in the Troy area — will be handing out free doughnuts to customers.
Krispy Kreme, which is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, is offering a sweet deal: All you have to do is show up, no purchase necessary, for a free doughnut of your choice (one per customer) while supplies last. The closest store for Troy residents is located near Oakland Mall.
Knapp's Donuts isn't giving away free food, though they are participating in National Donut Day by donating a percentage of all doughnut sales today to the Salvation Army, according to the donut shoppe's Facebook page.
The Salvation Army this year is also teaming up with some Hollywood Market locations to help celebrate the day.
National Donut Day, always celebrated on the first Friday of June each year, was established in 1938 by the Chicago Salvation Army to honor women who served doughnuts to soldiers during World War I.
