New Online Petition Demands Mayor Janice Daniels' Resignation

The change.org petition hopes to gather 1,000 online signatures.

A new online petition on change.org is asking Troy Mayor Janice Daniels to resign as mayor of the city after she .

Daniels, who apologized on Monday, said she will not resign as mayor of Troy.

"Her position compels her to represent the interests of her constituents and she cannot do so if she openly discriminates against them," Joyce Wu wrote in the petition's description. "The people of Troy, MI deserve a mayor who is respectful of all its citizens regardless of their race, ethnicity, religion, class, age, physical disability, gender or sexual orientation."

As of 3 p.m., the petition had gathered 150 signatures.

"I grew up in Troy and found it to be a diverse, forward-thinking, open society," wrote Julia Feczko, who signed the petition Tuesday. "Mayor Daniels' actions are the opposite of that. I am embarrassed!"

"As a proud native of Troy whose family has lived in the city for over 30 years, I am extremely disappointed at the mayor's choice of words, behavior and what I feel is a hollow apology," wrote Armen Terjimanian, who also signed the petition. "I can forgive if asked, but I cannot forget the damage that has been done."
