Patterson Files for Re-Election: What Can He Do for Troy?
The five-term Oakland County executive and founder of The Brooksie Way is seeking another four years.
In an effort to continue what he calls a "legacy of leadership" in Troy and all of Oakland County, L. Brooks Patterson filed for re-election as Oakland County executive Thursday morning at the county clerk's office.
Patterson is seeking his sixth term.
"My administration has a legacy of leadership that is unmatched," Patterson said in a statement Thursday.
"Our economic diversification initiatives and budgetary innovations were in place long before others began to see the necessity of adopting similar programs. Plus, we have embraced the effective use of applied technology and enjoy a quality of life second to none here in Oakland County."
The statement from the Friends of L. Brooks Patterson, his re-election campaign, listed his accomplishments over the past 19 years. Among them: Medical Main Street, Automation Alley, the creation of jobs, the establishment of a three-year budget, the Oakland County International Airport, Main Street Oakland County and the Brooksie Way Half-Marathon.
Huntington Woods resident and business executive Kevin Howley has filed as a Democrat to run against Patterson in the November election.
What has Patterson brought to Troy?

Brooks served as Oakland County Prosecutor for 16 years. He has served as Oakland County Executive for 20 years. Now he wants 4 more years. His time in elected office will eclipse that of Frank Kelley (the "Eternal" General) and longtime Secretary of State Richard Austin.
Isn't it time to give someone else a chance? Isn't it time for a new perspective in Oakland County?

Total power corrupts totally. Has everyone forgotten about his many follies, including drunk driving. In that instance he got assisted home by Oakland county deputies. Only after fox 2 news got a hold of the story was he held (partly) responsible. Mr. Patterson has forgotten that he works for the people, not the other way around. Typical career politician.: (

I've not been a fan of everything Brooks Patterson has done, and disagree with him on many policy issues. But the question is who to replace him with? Change for the sake of change is not a good thing.
We got change the last presidential election. It's not the kind of change most Americans were hoping for. In November we have a chance to fire him and replace him. Let's hope America is not fooled a second time. I shudder to think what will happen when he's not running for reelection: four years of a lame duck socialist with the velvet gloves off would reveal the iron fist.

Dale,
Nice work changing the topic from Patterson to Obama. I'm not sure why you did it. Perhaps you have a deep-seeded hatred of Obama that forces you to turn every conversation into an attack on the President.
Let me ask you this: when you're at the grocery store, and the bagger asks if if you'd like paper or plastic, do you tell him, "I'm glad I have a choice now, because if Obama gets reelected, he's going to make us carry our own bags made of melted down assault weapons!"
I kid of course, but please tell me -- what exactly do you think Obama is going to do that's so gosh darn horrible if he gets reelected that makes you "shudder"?

Why, sir, I agree! We don't need change! We need a leader who follows in the steps of the great Christian and greatest American President, George W. Bush!
We need someone with enough genius to enact economic policies like those of George W. Bush! Only gifted mind could successfully wage two wars while enacting tax cuts!
It's a true leader who brings forth legislation permitting the indefinite detention of illegal aliens, disregards the anachronistic Geneva conventions, and dismantles welfare agencies like FEMA!
We need a leader who enacts Christ's vision for humanity: A vision in which we are economic actors following our own self-interest, free to disregard others and pursue our own ends! Only when the Americans wake up and realize that God rewards the virtuous with millions of dollars will we be free!
I thank you, Mr. Murrish, for being a clarion call to Christ's true vision, and will join you in proudly voting for Mitt Romney!

I'm done with the Republicans in Oakland County. Between Janice Daniels and her crazy supporters, including Bob Gosselin, I've lost faith. The more I learn about all of them, the less impressed I am with their intelligence. It makes me question Patterson, too. If they won't clean up their own ranks, the voters will do it for them.

Well, in defense of Brooks (I can't believe I'm doing this), he did brand the Gosselin-type folks as the "Taliban wing" of the Republican Party. Plus, he wrote a letter supporting John Szerlag against the unwarranted attacks by Janice Daniels.
Nevertheless, I still think it's time for new blood in the Executive Office.

Szerlag needed to go...Daniels was right...and Patterson needs to follow.
By not only supporting the recall election against Mayor Daniels, but also by supporting a write-in campaign (instead of the candidate that got on the ballot) in the 11th District for US House Representative, he is definitely and clearly showing where his loyalties lay...and they aren't with his constituents anymore.

Randy, So you are saying that unless someone agrees with you, they are wrong. They need not do their own thinking and come to a logical conclusion? I think Brooks did the Republicans a favor by showing that not all of us are single minded as the likes of those who vie for a position just for control and power. I am sick and tired of what the group of Republican rogues are doing to the city of Troy, the county and the party.
