Man Hides Stolen Video Games in Empty Dog Food Bag; More Recent Troy Crime Reports

The following is a recap of recent news from the Troy Police Department.
Woman steals gumballs, tea packets
Loss Prevention officers at Home Goods on John R Road reported on Dec. 1 that a woman had opened a package of gumballs and poured them into her purse. She then opened a package of tea and dumped the tea bags into her purse, according to a media release from the Troy Police Department.
Finally, the woman concealed three other pieces of merchandise in her purse and was then apprehended by Loss Prevention when she exited the store without paying for any of the items.
The 44-year-old Troy resident was cited for retail fraud in the third degree.
Man conceals, steals video games in empty dog food bag
Troy Police responded to Walmart after Loss Prevention officers at the store reported they were chasing a retail fraud suspect through the parking lot. The Troy officer saw the suspect and successfully chased and apprehended him.
Loss Prevention officers told police the man had emptied out a bag of dog food from the store and then concealed $462 in video games and soap in the empty bag.
The 47-year-old Rochester Hills man was arrested and charged with retail fraud in the second degree.
Thief breaks into home, steals jewelry
A resident on the 4000 block of Stoddard reported Monday afternoon that someone had entered his house during the day by forcing his or her way through the kitchen door. Jewelry was taken during the home invasion.
Car stolen from mall parking lot
A shopper reported his Dodge Caravan was stolen from the Oakland Mall parking lot while he was shopping Tuesday during the day.
Thieves steal from office centers
Three suites at the Willow Office Center on Big Beaver Road were broken into some time between Nov. 30 and Dec. 3. Entry was made by prying open the office doors. A laptop from one office and a television from another were stolen.
Items were also reported stolen from the Timberland Office Building on Corporate Drive Tuesday morning. A laptop computer was stolen from one suite and a wall-mounted television was stolen from another. There were no signs of forced entry.
Driver arrested for driving under influence of marijuana
A Troy Police officer pulled over a vehicle Monday evening on Interstate 75 near Livernois after observing it traveling 82 mph in a 70 mph zone and making aggressive lane changes.
According to a media release from the Troy Police Department, the drive of the vehicle threw something out of the car window before pulling over for the officer. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer noticed the smell of marijuana.
The driver eventually admitted to having a small amount of marijuana in the car and throwing a baggie of marijuana and the marijuana cigarette out of the car before being stopped.
The 41-year-old Flint resident failed sobriety tests and was arrested for operating under the influence of drugs and possession of marijuana. Results of a blood test are pending.
Macy's employee steals $300 comforter
Macy's Loss Prevention reported to Troy Police that a 19-year-old Detroit woman had placed a $300 Martha Stewart comforter in a bag and then tried to exit the store through the employee door without first paying for the comforter. She was arrested and charged with embezzlement.
