Police Say Man Drives into Tree, Abandons Car, Gets Arrested Anyway

Brett Francis Davies, 30, of Troy, was arrested on charges of leaving the scene of accident and operating while intoxicated.

The following information about recent incidents of drunken driving and driving under the influence is taken directly from the most recent Troy Police Department media release. Note: In Michigan, the blood alcohol content legal limit is .08 percent.

Brett Francis Davies, 30, of Troy, was not able to escape arrest after police said he went home on foot following a drunken driving crash Friday evening.

Davies, who has four prior drunken driving convictions, was driving with a suspended license when he hit another driver and then a tree at Elliott Drive and Dequindre Road at about 6:05 p.m., according to police.

Witnesses to the crash told police that Davies, who was found to be at-fault in the accident, fled on foot. Muddy footprints leading to the door of Davies' residence led police to make the arrest after Davies failed sobriety tests, with a preliminary breath test result of 0.239 percent blood alcohol content.

Davies suffered minor injuries to the head was later transported to an area hospital, where unspecified narcotic paraphernalia was found in his pants pocket, according to police. The second driver was uninjured. A blood test was given and the results are pending.

On Saturday, Davies was arraigned on charges of operating while intoxicated (third or subsequent offense), driving with a suspended license (second or subsequent offense), possession of narcotic paraphernalia, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident and leaving the scene of a property damage accident.

Bond was set at $50,000 cash or surety bond. Davies next court appearance is scheduled for March 18 before Judge William E. Bolle of the 52-4 District Court.
