Police Search for Troy Man's Body in Montrose
Police are reportedly searching for the body of Troy resident Patrick Joseph Mikes in the Flint River, among other areas.
Police spent much of the day searching using cadaver dogs in Genesee County, WXYZ reported. Fox 2 reports police searched the Flint River in Montrose and circulated a flyer of the family's car, a silver-gray Infiniti, which police believe may have been used to move the body.
Police also searched the Brent Run landfill in Montrose and the 8,000-acre Holly Recreation Area in Oakland County, Local 4 reported.
Police believe Mikes was killed in a violent altercation in the basement of his Troy home on Homewood Drive sometime between last Thursday evening and Sunday morning. He was last seen alive by his 16-year-old son, Andrew Mikes, on Thursday evening.
Mikes did not show up for work Friday, and investigators now believe his 21-year-old son, Patrick Joseph Mikes Jr., who is the only named suspect in his father's disappearance, did not see his father leaving for a bike ride on Friday, as he first reported to police Sunday morning.
Mikes Jr. also was seen on surveillance video purchasing a large quantity of cleaning supplies at a local store last Friday evening, according to Troy police.
Mikes Jr. was charged Wednesday morning with fraudulently using his younger brother's American Express card to make purchases at AMC Theatre and Johnny Rocket's in Auburn Hills last Thursday. He was released Thursday afternoon after his maternal grandparents paid his $50,000 bond. He has been ordered not to contact his younger brother or leave the state.
Additional charges have not yet been filed against Mikes Jr., and police say there is no known history of violent altercations between Mikes Jr. and his father. Mikes Jr.'s next court appearance regarding the credit card fraud charges is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Monday before Judge Nancy Carniak at 52-3 District Court in Rochester Hills.
Redmond said numerous tips from the public have already helped the investigation. Anyone who has any information about Mikes is asked to contact the Troy Police Department at 248-524-3477.
