Flash! Bang! Screech! Boom!
It's the time of year to celebrate our nation's birthday with impressive displays of pyrotechnics, and now that consumers can buy airborne fireworks without leaving Michigan, hundreds of temporary sites and stores in Troy and around Metro Detroit have popped up, MLive Media Group reports.
But the change in Michigan law could also mean more injuries and fires caused by the improper handling of fireworks, Troy Fire Department Lt. Chuck Riesterer said.
And then there's the noise.
Several Michigan communities, including Warren and Lake Orion, are working to or have already implemented noise ordinances prohibiting the use of fireworks throughout much of the year. Currently, state law allows the use of fireworks on national holidays, along with the days before and after the holidays. Troy ordinances prohibit noise above a certain decibel level, though an ordinance specifically banning fireworks on days not protected by the new state law does not yet exist.
What do you think? Do you like the new law, or do you prefer things the way they used to be?

If the laws were enforced it would be great. State law allows for pyrotechnics the day before, the day of, and the day after national holidays. This idea that each city or township must pass a new ordinance is pure garbage. Enforce the law so we don't have stray fireworks at 2 a.m. 2 weeks before a holiday. My pets and my heart will thank you for doing your job law enforcement.

Today is July 13. I heard fireworks last night at 11:10 pm. Enough already,
