Smash, Sizzle, Savor: Smashburger Opens in Troy Today

The fast casual restaurant is known for its signature made-to-order Angus burgers and family-friendly atmosphere.

 – the fast casual restaurant best known for its signature 100 percent Angus beef burgers that are literally  – is opening its second metro Detroit location today on Big Beaver Road in Troy.

"We're excited about coming to Troy," Smashburger COO and Dewitt resident Jeff Neely said Tuesday evening at the restaurant's VIP opening event. "We're excited to be part of the community and to bring a great hamburger to the area."

"I'm happy to see another business come to Troy," Councilman Jim Campbell said, adding that the restaurant's location – smashed between a bank and a mattress store – supports the city's Master Plan, which looks to integrate different kinds of businesses.

“We worked hard to give Michigan diners both truly different and regionally specific fare,” said Tom Ryan, Smashburger founder and Chief Concept Officer.  “Guests will be excited about the menu and we look forward to bringing these specialty items to the Detroit area.”

Denver-based Smashburger, which is one of the fastest-growing burger chains in the country, offers a versatile menu that includes burgers, hot dogs, french fries, sweet potato fries, black bean burgers, chicken sandwiches, salads, Häagen-Dazs shakes and floats and kids meals.

But great burgers aren't all that Smashburger is bringing to Troy.

"We're really big on giving back to the community," Operating Partner Rob Ramey said. On Monday, the restaurant hosted a fundraiser luncheon to benefit the , raising $186 in two hours. Ramey said Smashburger in Troy will continue to donate 100 percent of the sales of its $5 "Smashbucks" gift certificates to the club through the end of August.

"We're delighted that they've demonstrated their partnership with nonprofits like the Boys & Girls Club of Troy," Boys and Girls Club Development Director Mary Kerwin said.

"This is fast, good food for the whole family," she added.

Smashburger has also brought 50 news jobs to Troy, Ramey said, adding that they plan to open 16-19 more restaurants in southeast Michigan in the next five years. The Troy location is the fifth in Michigan and the second in metro Detroit; the West Bloomfield location .
