Troy merchants are partnering with the Troy Community Coalition to offer special discounts to help promote and celebrate Family Day - A Day to Eat Dinner with Your Children – on Monday, Sept. 24. 

More than a decade of research by The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University has consistently found that the more often kids eat dinner with their families, the less likely they are to smoke, drink or use drugs.

CASAColumbia's Family Day is a national movement launched in 2001 that promotes the parental engagement fostered during frequent family dinners as a simple, effective way to prevent substance abuse in Kids.

“If I could wave a magic wand to make a dent in our nation’s substance abuse problem, I would make sure that every child in America had dinner with his or her parents at least five times a week," said Joseph A. Califano Jr., CASA Columbia Founder and Chairman Emeritus.

For the past ten years, the following area merchants have helped the Troy Community Coalition commemorate Family Day:

Noodles and Company

Troy Community Coalition Executive Director Nancy Morrison stressed the event's importance.

“Substance abuse touches us all," she said. "This Family Day, sit down to dinner with your children and talk to them about the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse.”
