Troy Clothing Stores Targeted in 4 Separate Shoplifting Attempts

The following information was supplied by the Troy Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The following is a recap of recent news from the Troy Police Department.

Infant Dressed in Stolen Merchandise at Macy's

Macy's Loss Prevention detained a 24-year-old Birmingham woman Tuesday after she was caught taking 22 pieces of merchandise totaling more than $800 from the Somerset Collection department store.

The incident happened around 3 p.m., according to a police report. It stated that the woman was pushing her one-year-old child in a stroller at the time and proceeded to exit the store without paying. Merchandise was recovered by Loss Prevention from shopping bags the woman was carrying as well as from inside the stroller. The suspect had also dressed her child in a shirt and pair of pants that she had not paid for, according to the report.

The report indicated that a small amount of marijuana was found in her purse at the time. A Troy Officer issued the suspect a citation for retail fraud and possession of marijuana.

Shoes Taken from Kohl's, Woman Leaves Behind Old Pair

According to a police report, Kohl's Loss Prevention reported that a 40-year-old Sterling Heights woman took a new pair of shoes and a shoebox into a fitting room at the store around 7 p.m. Tuesday. When she emerged a few minutes later, the shoebox was left in the fitting room with the woman's original pair of shoes inside, the report indicated. When the woman attempted to exit the store without purchasing the new shoes, she was apprehended and issued a citation for retail fraud.

Woman Runs from Neiman Marcus with Burberry Items

Neiman Marcus Loss Prevention contacted Troy Police Tuesday just before 8 p.m. to report a woman who left the department store without paying for merchandise.

The 22-year-old Pontiac resident is accused of concealing a Burberry shirt and pants in her coat and exited Neiman Marcus. According to a police report, when she was approached by Loss Prevention, the woman jumped off the escalator and began running through the mall but was apprehended after a short chase.

The woman provided a Troy officer with two different fake names, the report stated. She was taken into custody and charged with retail fraud as well as hinder and obstruct a police officer by false identification. It was discovered that the woman has one prior retail fraud conviction and several outstanding warrants for her arrest.

Large Group Steals $2,500 in Merchandise from Victoria's Secret

Troy Police were called to Victoria's Secret at Oakland Mall just after 8 p.m. on Tuesday. A store manager reported that three males and four females took a total of 37 pieces of merchandise totaling nearly $2,500. According to police, some of the suspects distracted store employees while others shoved merchandise into shopping bags and underneath their coats.

After the manager confronted a few of the suspects, one of the males proceeded to hold a security sensor up to the alarm system to sound it as the rest of the suspects walked out the front door of the store.

One of the suspects was described as a 30-year-old female with the word "Gone" written on the back of her jacket. Another suspect was described as a 19-year-old male with gold teeth.

How am I supposed to provide Troy police with any information about the Vicky's Secret shop-lifting incident if I don't have an accurate description of the suspects. The Patch always does this -- horrible description. What was the build, race, hair color, weight, ect of the suspects??? 19year old male with gold teeth -- could be anyone with gold teeth. An accurate description may help catch them.

Somerset is quickly going down the same route unless people wise up and start imposing the same sorts of anti-gang regulations like other malls have - i.e., no large groups of unattended teenagers and tighter security, such as metal detectors at the mall entrances themselves. Unfortunately, it's going to come down to political correctness vs. customers' safety. All of the burbs are under attack by criminals coming out of Detroit, Flint, and Pontiac, preying on the locals' lack of awareness and their having been lulled into a false sense of security by years of relative peace. Those were the times before the economic collapse - those days won't return anytime soon. Because of this, criminals are running rampant in the burbs. Troy, Bloomfield Hills, Sterling Heights, and the like are quickly turning into an extension of the blight which is Detroit. Unless you folks put a stop to it, I hope you're willing to arm yourselves to the teeth and put bars on your windows.

Sleep tight...
