Tiger Fever: 5 Places to Watch the Game
Stranded without tickets to tonight's Detroit Tigers' game at Comerica Park? Patch has suggestions.
If you weren't one of the lucky people to get a ticket to watch the Tigers take on the Yankees tonight at Comerica Park in Detroit, there are still plenty of good places to catch the game nearby.
While there will be plenty of places in downtown Detroit to watch the game, Troy is home to more than half a dozen sports-type bars and pubs that are great for watching baseball, tipping back a glass of suds or other food and drink.
Norm's has won WDIV-TV Channel 4's "Best Sports Bar" competition, has televisions, flat-screen TVs, burgers and other traditional bar food. If you need another reason to head to Norm's, tonight is $2 Tuesday, meaning drink specials are dirt cheap.
"We expect it to be busy tonight," Carla Johnson, owner and manager of Norm's said.
While Johnson said the crowds will come out tonight to watch the game, it shouldn't be overly crowded.
"We busier for away games than home games since a lot of people go to the game or watch it downtown," she said.
Fifty flat-screen televisions decorate the walls at CJ Mahoney's making it easy to watch the game while playing ping pong, pool or darts. The bar has daily beer specials at $2.75 for domestic drafts and $2.25 for domestic bottles. And you can be sure the bar will attract Tiger fans, as it hosted the official Tip A Tiger event this summer when several players served customers from behind the bar.
Joe Kool's is well liked among many Troy locals, with local memorabilia decorating much of the inside. Televisions are in good view, and the menu ranges from pizza and burgers to ribeyes and fajitas.
Bailey's is billed as an upscale sports bar that features 30 high-definition screens and four 110-inch screens for watching games. The 10,000 square foot building offers what is considered a "six-pronged theme," providing casual dining, a late-night destination spot, traditional games, a neighborhood pub, sports viewing and rooms for party rentals. With 36 different draft beers and specialities such as gluten-free beer, the drink menu is matched only by its large dinner menu.
Flat screen televisions cover every corner of the walls at Troy's Buffalo Wild Wings, but the main attraction is the menu of regular and boneless chicken wings and 14 different sauces available. From sweet to blazing, the sauce selection offers something for delicate pallets and serious heat seekers. Traditional bar fare is also available.
