The following information was provided by the Troy Chamber of Commerce.

For over 40 years, the Troy Chamber of Commerce has recognized the outstanding physical investments made by businesses in the city. The 2012 Best of Troy honorees were announced at the annual Holiday Luncheon last week. This year’s awards are sponsored by Doeren Mayhew and Stewart Title.

“The Best of Troy awards recognize completed projects that best exemplify financial investment and aesthetic enhancement within the city of Troy,” explained 2012 Best of Troy Chair Andy Capelli of Stewart Title. “We all know how vital these investments are to the continuing prosperity of our city.”

This year’s winners are: 2Booli; The Art Institute of Michigan-Troy; The Barkshire, resort for paws; Granite City Food & Brewery; Rehmann; and Secrest Wardle.

2Booli wanted to start with something simple—authentic family recipes prepared with fresh ingredients, from scratch, daily. They paired that with a casual, contemporary atmosphere creating a unique dining experience not normally recognized with many middle-eastern restaurants. 2Booli offers a full bar which makes it a great place to meet with friends after work or to spice up dinner with a nice wine pairing. Whether it is for a quick lunch or a relaxed night out, the goal is to provide great food and fantastic service to all of their guests.

The Art Institute of Michigan—Troy is an additional location of The Illinois Institute of Art. The Institute offers degree and other academic programs in the creative and applied arts to a diverse student body. The facility features numerous art inspired amenities including a multifunctional lobby/gallery. The commercial art & design-focused learning resource center includes a color wheel wall with samples of design elements. Student artwork is showcased within the entire facility, including lining hallways, in both two-dimensional as well as digital formats.

The Barkshire, resort for paws, is a home away from home, a stress-free environment for dogs to play and stay. Dogs are treated with the utmost love and respect by a highly trained staff while enjoying indoor and outdoor play areas—just like home. The Barkshire boasts having the only dog pool in Michigan. The saltwater pool is used for recreational swim and hydrotherapy. This development is a renovation and adaptive re-use of an existing industrial building that had become obsolete in today’s marketplace.

Granite City Food & Brewery is located on Big Beaver, in the heart of Troy. This modern design is being used as a new prototype for the family of restaurants. The interior showcases a wrap-around bar which flows into an atrium, an open kitchen, a central wood-fired pizza oven and a private dining room. The four seasons room is a favorite of diners year round as they can enjoy the warm air in the summer and the bright sun during colder months. The restaurant, which is the only Granite City Food & Brewery in Michigan, utilizes the company’s patented brewing process, Fermentus Interruptus™, which makes micro brewing for multiple locations more efficient.

The former Sandy Corp. building got a new face and name in 2012: Rehmann. Portions of the exterior are clad with limestone to create impressive focal points, including an enhanced grand entrance. The integration of elegant stone, glass and cherry woodwork help to convey the professional tone of a CPA, wealth management and corporate investigation firm. A client lounge, featuring floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Big Beaver, and a kitchen with a wall-mounted flat-panel television provide a welcoming space for guests and associates alike. Colors, images and artwork convey the warm, human experience that Rehmann wants its associates and clients to enjoy.

With the 100th anniversary of the law firm approaching, the partners of Secrest Wardle were determined to acquire new space that would ultimately reflect the values that had sustained the firm over that time, while embracing the cutting edge technology that is required in today's ever changing marketplace. With the firm’s move to Troy, innovative ideas were used to create a modern law office. The building was transformed from a medical device manufacturing business into a law office with a central "Great Room," cafe and patio plus multi-purpose conference rooms, training center and boardroom. Elegant finishes, dark wood floors, glass tiles and leather furniture are featured throughout the office.
