I thought we were given a constitutionally-limited representative Republic? You know, like we say in the Pledge of Allegiance and like Ben Franklin told an inquisitive citizen back during our nation's founding? That protects the minority from the majority....like when six wolves and one sheep decide what's for dinner.

Then again, now that I think about it, maybe our Republic has really devolved into more of a mob-ocracy after all.

I love how people like Barbara Harrell are all about protecting the minority from the majority except when it comes to things like gay marriage, abortion and where muslims can build mosques. Then majority mob rule is just super. But I guess Barbara would say that when it comes to those things, God whispers his wishes in their ears and they're just doing what they're told.

Your figures are wrong . further more money spent for recall was by donation and unless it changed recently that is those donars right. The election was already being done . Furthermore we who supported the recall at least myself regreted that we left Matt Pryor make our city the laughing stock for 4 years and was the root of later problems. I agree about those who did not bother to vote but unfortunately that is a problem in local election across the country.

Troy City Council didn't organize the Recall. And it didn't cost Troy tax payers a cent. It was a grassroots effort. And I agree the council meetings are embarrassing; the main reason why is now gone. It's unfair to paint the entire council with her lack of decorum. They conducted themselves with professionalism, despite her. Instead of criticizing them, you should thank them for enduring it.

City council had nothing to do with the recall . You must be one of thos low information voters . First duty of a voter is know how your government works .

The vote of the citizens of Troy was to vote out of office an insensitive mayor. If you can't represent all of the citizens of our City you don't deserve to be our leader. Former Mayor Daniels lacked a necessary the quality of leadership to know her people and represent them all regardless of sexual orientation, race, religion or individual differences. Some of those who voted for her may have had alternative lifestyles, but agreed with her "conservative" views until she exposed her true colors. Understand, I am not one of her supporter and agree with the "majority" who demonstrated how term limitation really works. I pray that our future politicians will take notice that certain expression of their personal beliefs will effect their political expectations.

Wiley, Daniels really upset people because she used her position to push her ideology, and did it when Tietz, Henderson and Fleming did the right thing for the city, like approving the budget. They may work with groups espousing their views, but have seemed to not highlight them in public the way Daniels did. If she'd shut up about city workers and Szerlag, rather than behave imperiously and arrogantly, if she'd been understanding towards the students and helped regarding suicide and not pushed her anti-gay views, if she'd not reinforced her anti-gay views and had not invited outsiders who presented racist arguments against the transit center, the recall petitions might have failed. If she'd shut up and not said being gay is a health risk like cigarettes, or insulted Kerwin, if she'd learned how to run a meeting and behaved like a professional, normal person, and if she hadn't defended bigoted friends like Paul Smith, she might have avoided recall. But she didn't. And so far Tietz, Henderson, and Fleming haven't done as she did, although I doubt I'd vote for them knowing their views. Reasonable, electable, alternative candidates need to come forward at election time

1. Our charter makes our elections in Troy non-partison .
2..Our city government statred to have problems that had potential in long terms problems right around 2000
3. All politics are local and that means that they are very important to watch because they effect your everyday life . For instant if we had well infiormed voters they majority would have never voted for the millage cap which very shortly before the real estate crash would have prevented the finanical problems we are digging ourselves out of . That is because it erased uncollected approved millage which our wise managers and council kept for emergencies . We just now awarded that short sighted council person who put that on the ballot to the state legislature so he can bring his short sighted visions to the state. Gee Thomas Jefferson must of been correct when he said '"A democratric republic cannot exist with an uneducated voter".

That remains to be seen. You might provide the name of your nominee to the 6 council members to see if they care, and consult him yourself to see if he's even interested, so that he isn't embarrassed by being named or not.

Dale, if I heard right, you suggested Fleming for mayor and Ed Kempen for council, the reply is no, and h... no.

Isn't Ed Kempen the guy who was responsible for circulating intentionally misleading petition(s) to intentionally confuse voters about funding the library? If that is the case, then he would be a comically, outrageously divisive and inappropriate choice that would never ever happen in a zillion years. You are correct about Kempen and his opposition, misleading opposition, to the millage votes, particularly for the library. He is another extreme, far right conservative, and who I thought Murrish would propose for mayor.

Top 5 vote recipients in Nov 2011 were: Tietz 7621, Henderson 7157, Campbell 6552, Kempen 6495, and Boomingdale 6096. There were 3 seat, and Kempen had he fourth highest total. In the same election Daniels 7709, Beltramini 7092.

"This story is a very good example of why I'm a little leary about the budget numbers the city has given to the people of Troy, especially as it regards extraction of the entire library budget, in its quest for a tax increase." Did Henderson and Tietz, much less the silent Daniels, find funds hidden in the budget for the library, or anything else? If they had would they not have funded the library or other needs or at least trumpeted the vindication of their beliefs? They didn't. If they couldn't, Kempen couldn't and won't. The premise of their campaign, hidden excess budget funds, was wrong, if not a political figment. Kempen, given his joint error with Daniels, shouldn't be given consideration.He will be divisive.

As is typical, Dale only tells part of the story to try to steer the reader towards his way of thinking. The studies Dale is most likely referring to stated that while approximately 50% of Americans consider themselves pro-life, 89% of Americans (and 82% percent of Catholics) believe that contraception is "morally acceptable".

Dale you're not being completely honest again. You're only OK with people having a different point of view on abortion as long as they're not allowed to have one. That's why you and your religious right wing cohorts keep trying to outlaw it. OK is what I am with a pro-life position. Heck, I am pro-life. I don't think that I would ever have opted to have an abortion if the situation would have arisen in my younger days. I have two kids that I wanted and was prepared to have. But I'm not about to tell other people what choices they have to make when it comes to a subject that no one can come to a consensus on.
