Why would anyone listen to her? Hasn't she said enough? I do not want her representing this wonderful, diverse city. She is not professional- she is a national embarressment.

Fascinating - she pulled this talk ahead several months to make it an infomercial for herself; but then again, when she speaks she always gives us more reasons
to remove her.

This is just a political ploy on her part. It will be interesting to see how she skews the information.

She has nothing worth saying except "I hereby resign as Mayor of Troy."

I certainly hope she has the Troy Fire Dept. on hand, because as soon as she opens her mouth ".....pants on fire!"

Don't you people have anything better to do than to continue to leave negative comments about the Mayor even though this article is just making an announcement of an event and has not saying anything else! Get a life!

This is an announcement of a non-event. As soon as the mayor is removed from office in November, I promise to never say a negative word about her again.

'Don't "YOU" people have anything better to do than' blindly follow an individual who cares more about her own personal agenda than she ever cared about doing what's right for the people of Troy. Now I understand why you are..."Anonymous?"

She scheduled this time because her son a marine will be home and she wants to exploit him during the speech. Ick

This is typical liberal democrat playbook material! What are you going to do when she's not recalled?

Typical Janice supporter throwing around ignorant labels that don't apply when they don't know what they are talking about.

There has been such an enormous groundswell of support for the recall from ACROSS THE POLITICAL SPECTRUM that it seems fairly clear to me that all indications point to the recall being successful.

Fall back on name calling when you have no other argument. That is typical.

Anonymous... when are you going to retire (or should I say, "recall") that old tune? It really is getting old and like Janice, just because you say it, certainly doesn't make it true!

Okay, I give up, put another liberal in and the city will be bankrupt in 5 years as the previous City Manager Szerlag stated before he left. By the way, what does mentioning the liberal democrat playbook have to do with "name calling"? Who's calling anyone a name?

You are calling anyone who disagrees with you a liberal democrat: that is inaccurate labeling, which is name calling. 8,800 citizens signed the recall petition, and they most certainly were not all liberal democrats.

Szerlag said the city would be bankrupt if the fund balance were used to pay for regular city operations, which is exactly the sort of irresponsible fiscal management the mayor has been calling for, for years.

There is no reason the interim or permanent replacement for the mayor would have to be of any particular political bent. That is for the voters to decide, jus like the recall.

Daffy Noodnicks --- how do you know what the party affiliations of those that signed the recall petition were? They don't indicate their party affiliation when they sign the petition.

I've talked to people who collected the signatures. I've talked to a lot of people who have signed the petition. They are from across the the poltical spectrum. Have you? How do you know the party affiliations of the people you are calling liberal democrats?

I collected signatures. I talked to the people who signed. I KNOW firsthand that the signers are multipartisan and many actually voted for her. They soon realized they had been scammed, and now want her out of office.

He may not. But I do. I am a democrat, and most of the people who signed the petitions I circulated were independent and republican. It has been a place where people of ALL political philosophies have found common ground. Including Tea Party members who voted for her last fall. Most of the people I worked with during the signature gathering were Republican. By the way, to my knowledge, there is not a single democrat on city council. If one were placed on city council after Janice's removal, there would STILL be a republican majority.

Anonymous, you don't have a CLUE what you are talking about.

Anonymous, I gathered signatures and several people who hurriedly signed the petition had voted for her. They felt cheated that she had represented herself during the election and they want her OUT. I also talked to someone who almost voted for her because he knew she was the "conservative" in the election, then when he saw her performance at the debate last fall he realized she didn't know anything about managing the city and came off as "a little crazy," so he voted for Robin Beltramini.
If people had just watched that debate last year, she would never have been elected. This whole situation should be a lesson to us all -- don't vote for someone unless you've done your homework.

Isn't there a law against city funds being used to influence an election? Isn't this change in the timing of the State of the City event being used as a venue for Janice to defend herself from recall? Does anyone else see the problem here?

I gathered petition signatures with grace and dignity knowing the facts surrounding the Mayor. To be clear, I received FIVE "YES RECALL" signatures for every "no thank you". The Troy voters are waiting for November 6th to put closer to Mayor Daniels political career. Did you witness the Mayor's opening ceremony speech at Troy Daze? She was in a fog and failed to introduce her favorite Oakland County Commissioner.....yikes!! A sad public display and embarrassment......again.

Mrs. Gosselin, for clarity sake, the Mayor performed just fine at the Troy Family Daze opening, and it was Roop Raj that failed to introduce Bob Gosselin, not the Mayor, and he corrected his omission a few minutes later. Anyone who has ever given a presentation to a group large or small knows all about stumbling occasionally.

Mr. Henderson, with all due respect and clarity, my comment is in reference to the Mayor and not about Bob. In my opinion, the Mayor performed poorly, turning her back to the audience as she tried to get direction from others on stage. Perhaps we can replay the tape? There is a new Gosselin in Troy...no relation to Mr. Gosselin. I take pride in my reputation for honesty, integrity, fair and balanced. I believe in Karma...If it was Roop Raj that failed to present Commissioner Gosselin during Troy Daze opening ceremony perhaps that indicates what fate has planned for November 6th.

Bob Gosselin signs in Rochester Hills. Is that due to district map changes? That guy is gross.

Yes, RochesterMom, the 11th Commissioner District now includes the western portion of Rochester Hills, the northern portion of Troy and a piece of Auburn Hills. Bob Gosselin (R-Troy) is facing Louise Schilling (D-Troy) for the seat on Nov. 6

You can view a map of the district here: http://www.oakgov.com/boc/Pages/2013_commission_districts/district_11.aspx

QUESTION: Based upon past experience, it's certainly quite probable that Janice Daniels will attempt to make the 'State of the City' address all about herself as she fights for her political career. My question is, is there any safeguards built into the by-laws that prevent Daniels from turning this into a 'Stop the Recall - Janice Daniels' infomercial? Who will intercede if Daniels is stupid enough to take the address into that direction?

I am concerned that if this turns into a campaign event, could it be a violation of campaign finance laws? Could that represent a potential legal liability to taxpayers?
