Troy Police Investigate String of Home Invasions

Police said lawn equipment and tools were stolen from garages located just blocks from one another in the eastern part of Troy.

Garages were targeted in four burglaries discovered Wednesday morning by victims of a series of related break-ins adjacent to Beaver Trail Park, between East Big Beaver and East Wattles in Troy.

Troy police Lt. Robert Redmond said lawn mowers, power tools and hand tools were taken between 9 p.m. Tuesday and 10 a.m. Wednesday during four break-ins occurring within blocks of one another. He said the incidents are considered home invasions because each involved an attached garage.

"The timing of them would make it appear they are related," Redmond said, adding that the crimes share similarities in style and location. Garage break-ins reported to police include:

  • The 2000 block of Traverse, where a garage door was damaged and unspecified power tools were stolen.
  • The 3000 block of Pasadena, where a pedestrian garage door was damaged and unspecified power and hand tools were stolen.
  • The 3000 block of Pasadena, where a pedestrian door was damaged and a lawn mower was stolen.
  • The 3000 block of Cedar Crest, where a lawn mower was stolen.

Redmond said a fifth home invasion that occurred Thursday afternoon in the 2000 block of Tervoa isn't believed to be related.

The victim of that break-in told police an unknown person gathered several electronic components inside the home after entering through an unlocked door wall. Police said the intruder fled without the items.

"They unplugged some things and moved stuff around," Redmond said, "but probably got scared off."
