Troy Police Seek Witnesses to Airborne Car Crash

Here's the basics of the crash at I-75 and Maple on Thursday night.

The following information about a recent incident of crash investigations is taken directly from the most recent Troy Police Department media release.

A 63-year-old Rochester Hills man was in critical condition from injuries sustained in a major car accident in Troy on Thursday night.

Police are seeking witnesses to the accident, which took place at Interstate-75 and Maple Road on Thursday, at about 9:40 p.m.

According to the officers investigating with the South Oakland Crash Investigation Team, a copper-colored 2008 Dodge Caravan lost control of the vehicle as it traveled northbound in the left lane, approaching the Maple Road overpass.

The driver, who is not believed to have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol, lost control of the van and the van entered the median, striking a road sign and going through the guardrail. The vehicle left the freeway, became airborne and fell down onto Maple before striking a bridge abutment.

The driver, who was the lone occupant in the van, was wearing a seat belt.
