1st: You don't have to open your door to anyone you don't know, or don't want to open it for. 2nd: Door-to-door solicitations are bound by rules. For example: They need picture I.D., they need a permit (original - no copies) with a raised seal including a start AND expiration date from the City Clerk's office. 3rd: When in doubt, call the Police. They will investigate. Other tip: Never Invite anybody into your home that you don't know. Don't even open the door for them.

I must be an idiot. I cannot find the media release on the Troy Police website. The most recent is dated May?! Can someone provide a link to their release for a description of the guy?
