The Troy Theatre Ensemble, Troy High School’s extracurricular theatre group, is proud to announce honors for TTE students in the 2012 National Youth Arts Awards for Theatre.

We received notification of our awards and nominations in the Eastern Division this past August.  For the fifth straight year, the TTE has been honored with recognition from the nation-wide organization whose purpose, according to its mission statement, is “to support, inspire, give feedback, and encourage the youth theatre community of America, to increase interest and visibility of youth theatre events, to offer theatres, instructors, and actors a medium through which they can connect, and to assist in building a helpful and supportive youth theatre community.”

For our November 2011 production, ALMOST MAINE:

  • Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Play -  Skye Macrae Curtis for her portrayal of the character of Marci.
  • Also, the entire company of this production was honored with a Outstanding Ensemble for a Play for the show.

Nominations included Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Play, Evan Best as Jimmy; Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Play, Maggie Steele as Glory; and Outstanding Direction of a Play, TTE director Rick Bodick.

For our March 2012 musical, THE DROWSY CHAPERONE :

  • Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Musical  - Peter Rohweder for his role as Aldolpho.
  • Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Musical  - Charia Rose McDonald for her portrayal of the title character.

I attended the final performance of The Drowsy Chaperone last spring and was just blown away by the outstanding performance of these high school actors. Everything about the production… the acting and choreography, the set design and costumes, the direction, music…. was just wonderful! It was a thoroughly enjoyable show and I was singing and humming the show tunes for weeks.

I've also seen The Drowsy Chaperone on Broadway and I truly believe the TTE performance was every bit as good as the one performed by professional actors. I applaud everyone involved in the TTE. They are outstanding! BRAVO!!!
