Last week, Andover baseball player Tim Zobl won the Athlete of the Week poll.
Vote for one of the following or write in your own candidate in the comments:
Stephanie Miller – Berkley High School (soccer): Stephanie Miller continues to score goals in bunches. Miller scored two goals in a 5-1 win over West Bloomfield on Thursday. Earlier in the week she gave the Bears an early 1-0 lead over North Farmington. Berkley went on to win 3-1. Miller is the team’s leading scorer and a big reason why the Bears are undefeated at 9-0-2 this season.
Catherine Gray – Royal Oak High School (tennis): Catherine Gray had a perfect week for the Royal Oak varsity girls tennis team. Gray beat Farmington’s Mrudhula Takasala in two sets 6-4 and 6-1 on Tuesday. She came right back on Wednesday and cruised past Ferndale’s Truelove Achin 6-1 and 6-0. In the Daily Tribune Invitational on Saturday, she won the No. 2 Flight with a win over Warren Regina’s Sydney Rusu 7-6(4) and 6-0.
Melissa Palmer – Troy Athens High School (softball): Pitchers might want to avoid giving Athens shortstop Melissa Palmer anything to hit. She is just crushing the ball right now. Coming into the week, she was batting over .600 and leading the team in runs scored. She continued her hot play with a 4-for-8 performance in a doubleheader against West Bloomfield. She helped the Red Hawks sweep the Lakers by scoring the winning run in the first game and breaking a 1-1 tie in the second game with an RBI double. She finished the afternoon with four runs and three stolen bases.
Spencer Eick – Birmingham Seaholm High School (baseball): Spencer Eick is seeing is swinging a hot bat for the Seaholm varsity baseball team. He went 3-for-4 with two doubles, four RBI and three runs in a 14-3 mercy rule win over Berkley on Friday. A day earlier, he helped the Maples avoid getting swept in a doubleheader gainst Harrison with a homerun and two RBIs. He went 2-for-4 and also had a stolen base in the 6-5 win.
Ben Sacco – Bemis Elementary School (baseball) – Ben Sacco, a fourth grader at Bemis Elementary in Troy, pitched a perfect – no hits, no walks and no errors – game on Thursday for the 10u Troy Bulldogs. His team won 10-0 over the 10u Clarkston Riverdawgs at Martell Elementary. The teams play in the North Oakland Baseball Federation.
