Your Guide to Tuesday's Primary Election in Troy
From your county commissioner to your U.S. senator, here are the names you'll see on the ballot this week.
Tuesday is Primary Day in Michigan. Here's a look at the candidates and issues that you will see on your ballot.
U.S. Senate
Incumbent U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow is running unopposed in the Democratic primary for one of two Senate seats.
Her opponents in the Republican primary are: Clark Durant, Gary Glenn, Randy Hekman and Pete Hoekstra.
Congress
Because of Congressional redistricting after the 2010 Census, Troy will no longer be part of the 9th District. Troy now falls into the state's 11th District.
- District 11: Republican candidate Kerry Bentivolio of Milford; Nancy Cassis and Rev. Drexel Morton are also running as a write-in candidates. Democratic candidates are Syed Taj of Canton and Bill Roberts of Redford.
State leadership
- District 41: Troy resident Mary Kerwin is the only Democratic candidate for the post. Republicans Deborah DeBacker, Martin Howrylak and Matt Pryor are also candidates for the position, which represents Troy and Clawson.
County leadership
- Oakland County Executive: L. Brooks Patterson will seek another term (See Patterson Files for Re-Election: What Can He Do for Troy?). He will be challenged by Republican E. Wadsworth Sherrod III in the primary. Kevin Howley of Huntington Woods is the Democratic candidate.
- Oakland County Sheriff: Mike Bouchard will seek another term. He will be challenged by Republican James Stevens of Rochester Hills in the primary. Jane Felice Boudreau is the Democratic candidate.
- Oakland County Prosecutor: Mike Bishop, the Republican former Senate Majority Leader from Rochester, will challenge Democratic incumbent Jessica Cooper.
- Oakland County Clerk: Democrat Lisa Brown of West Bloomfield will challenge Bill Bullard, the Republican incumbent.
- Oakland County Treasurer: Republican Marty Knollenberg will challenge Democrat Andy Meisner.
- Oakland County Water Resources Commissioner: Republican John McCulloch will seek another term. Democrats Mark Danowski and Jim Nash will face off in the primary.

- District 16: This district includes the central portion of Troy. Mike Bosnic, a Republican from Clawson, will face Tim Burns, a Democrat from Clawson.
- District 20: This district includes a portion of southern Troy. Antoine Delaforterie, a Republican from Troy, will face Gary McGillivray, a Democrat from Madison Heights.
Ballot questions
- County questions: Voters will be asked to support .2 mills for the Oakland County Art Institute Authority and to renew .59 mills for the Oakland County Transportation Millage.

Forget it, that logo was kind of ugly, so I switched it to a photo of a cute baby. Much better, I think :)

James Stevens is running for Oakland County Sheriff.
1. Number one objective is to make Oakland county citizens safe.
How will I do that, I plan to set up a good citizen hotline directly to me, citizens will be rewarded with money and prizes which would be from private funding.
2. I plan to start Big Jim's Boot Camp to open up Jail space. which would be funded by myself and private funding and not the tax payers.
3. Cut cost save tax payers more money, find ways to save , lets keep taxes Low.
4. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE RESIDENTS NOT BE OUSTED FROM THERE HOMES DUE TO BANKING ISSUES , RATHER SEE THAT FAMILIES GET HELP TO KEEP THERE HOMES AS WELL. RATHER THAN SHERIFF'S THROWING PEOPLE TO THE STREETS, SO I WOULD DONATE 10%
OR MORE OF MY SALARY TO HELP FAMILIES OUT.
5. Reward officers for there work, bonuses given thru out the year from my personal fund and not the tax payers.

It would be nice if our next Oakland County Sheriff could spell and use proper grammar.

Hi, Barbara. No, Patch does not endorse candidates. And you're welcome, though I accidentally left out CC District 16 for a few hours this morning. My apologies! I swear I'm cross-eyed from looking at district maps.
What are you most interested in on tomorrow's ballot?

With all the changes, I was not sure what District I was in or who was on the ballot for my district! Still not sure which CC District I am in! I didn't realize there were 2 Ballot questions-I knew about the DIA, but not the other one-I sound as though I just woke up from a very long nap!! Thanks again, Jen!

Nice article, Jen. I’ll have to do a little more research before I vote.
Gary Glenn dropped out of the U.S. Senate race July 20 and endorsed Clark Durant.
For direct links to more candidate websites, including some of the judge candidates for Oakland Circuit Court, people can read my article

Thanks, Dale. And that's very interesting about Gary Glenn. He is still on the ballot, and he's on the official candidate list on the Oakland County Elections Division website: http://www.oakgov.com/clerkrod/elections/august_2012_combined_list.pdf Did he drop out too late to be taken off the ballot, then? Hmm.

Yes, he dropped out too late to be removed, because he could only raise about $15,000. That mention in the Southern Poverty Law Center probably didn't help him as much as he expected.
