American Legion Seeks Donations, Items for Troops Overseas

Here are the items they need and where in Troy you can drop them off. Or, you can make a monetary donation to help offset the cost of shipping care packages overseas.

The following information was provided by the City of Troy.

American Legion Post 14 in Troy is collecting items needed by our military men and women through TheDesertAngel.org. The organization’s mission is “Changing Our World ... One Miracle Box at A Time.”  

Miracle boxes are located in Troy City Hall at the east and west entrances and will be in place until Thursday, Nov. 8.

Desert Angels is a 100 percent volunteer organization that is wholly dependent on donations for shipping. They kindly request donations to help continue sending these miracle boxes of love to our troops.  The cost of shipping a Miracle Box is $15. Remember, our troops are in harm's way to safeguard us and our freedoms.

Items needed

Items for Winter: Caps, scarves, hand warmers, foot warmers, gloves, dark colored socks for men and women.

Items for Female Troops: PJs & slippers, t-shirts; travel size toiletries, lotion, shampoo and conditioner for all types of ethnicity, tampons, pads, hair clips and ponytail bands.

Pocket Foods (Individual Packs): Slim Jims, Beef Jerky (NO PORK products), Starkist tuna in foil pouch, fruit, pasta, mac & cheese, canned meat (NO PORK products), peanut butter, noodles in a cup, Ramen Noodles, cans of pasta, sunflower seeds, Gatorade, Crystal Light, Kool-Aid, Skittles, M&M's, Air Head Candy, all kinds of candy, hard candy, tootsie rolls, and chocolate candy (chocolate from October to March).

Snacks: Rice Krispy Treats, Lifesavers, brownies, homemade cookies, nuts, Cliff bars, raisins, snack cakes, dried fruit, trail mix, Pringles, pretzels, crackers, sunflower seeds, all kinds of candy, hard candy, tootsie rolls, and chocolate candy (chocolate from October to March).

Recreation: balls, hand held games, cards, stuffed animals, toys, DVDs, music CDs.

Beverages: Hot Chocolate, Gatorade, Crystal Light, Kool-Aid, instant coffee, flavored dry coffee creamer, tea, Tang drink, Instant Breakfast.

Breakfast Foods: Pop Tarts, cereal bars, Granola Bars, pre-sweetened cereal, oatmeal, Cream of Wheat, powdered dry milk.

Entertainment: Gently used books, Reader's Digests, magazines, paper, envelopes, pens, blank greeting cards, playing cards, Sudoku, crossword puzzles.

Personal Hygiene/Medical: Combs, brushes, Q-tips, chap stick, eye drops, stick deodorant, body lotion, individual Kleenex packs, razors, toothpaste, tooth brushes, mouth wash, body wash & bar soap, manicure sets, baby wipes, Cortaid & Benadryl creams, foot care products.

Additional items: Pocket Bible, small & large zip lock bags, pillow cases, travel size pillows, dark colored socks (for men and women), towels, wash clothes, large bandanas, batteries (AA & AAA), Febreeze & Lysol (travel size), Purex 3 in 1 (used to wash clothes).
