Local Scots Donate to Hurricane Sandy Victims

The Troy-based St. Andrew’s Society of Detroit has sent $1,000 to The Salvation Army Hurricane Sandy Relief to support its efforts to feed the New York and New Jersey shore families displaced by the hurricane on October 29.

“We are impressed by what the Salvation Army has been doing to feed both the survivors and the on-site first responders,” says Nancy Fromm, a member of the St. Andrew’s Society of Detroit and its benevolence committee.

The St. Andrew’s Society of Detroit has a long history of supporting the Detroit-area Salvation Army, including its neighborhood food programs.

“The Salvation Army’s relief efforts match our 164-year mission of helping the distressed,” says Society Trustee Ann Campbell. “I’m proud we are taking this positive action to help the thousands of storm survivors who are facing very difficult times.”

The St. Andrew’s Society of Detroit is Michigan’s oldest non-religious benevolent organization celebrating Scottish culture and history in America through education and charity. Its 164th Annual Highland Games, to be held next year at Greenmead Historic Park in Livonia, MI, on August 2- 3, 2013, is the oldest such continuous event in North America and raises money for donations such as this.
