The following information was submitted in a press release.

The Troy Police Department and Troy School District have enjoyed a long standing partnership to ensure the safety of the students, staff and visitors to Troy schools. With the increased need to ensure security and safety, both the school district and the police department have taken a proactive step in collaborating on a dedicated School Resource Officer (SRO).

We are pleased to announce Officer Gail Jasak as the new Troy School Resource Officer! Officer Jasak is a graduate of Troy schools and received her Bachelor of Science degree from Ferris State University.  Officer Jasak has been a member of the Troy Police Department since 2009 and has displayed a strong desire to work with  youths in a school setting.

“We are very pleased to have Officer Jasak working with our schools,” says Troy School District Superintendent Dr. Barbara Fowler. “Having a consistent officer in our buildings allows our students and staff to build relationships. She will be an invaluable resource to the District and the students we serve.”

The SRO duties are designed for maximum exposure in full uniform and patrol vehicle to patrol and visit all schools in the Troy School District. The duties also include coordinating school safety plans and being utilized for assisting in consulting, programs, and special school events.  The SRO is equipped and trained to respond to any law enforcement incidents at the schools including the possible armed suspect.

Chief Gary Mayer is a strong believer in creating partnerships within Troy to solve issues affecting the community. “The Troy Police Department and the Troy School District are committed to keeping Troy a great place to raise a family, do business and enjoy school activities. Our partnership in funding a police officer to work with the schools to keep our children safe is a big part of meeting that goal.”
