The Troy Police Department is investigating a possible sex assault incident at St. Augustine's Lutheran Church's daycare facility.

The report was made on May 22 and Child Protective Services was notified, according to the brief announcement made on Wednesday.

Child Protective Services sent letters out to parents who have children who attended the daycare within the last few years, because of the nature and location of the crime.

The Troy Police Department and Child Protective Services are encouraging any parent who receives a letter to call with any questions. Parents are also urged to call if they believe they have any information that may help in the investigation.

"These are the types of incidents that tend to shock the conscience of the community," wrote Capt. Robert Redmond. "I would like to remind everyone that these types of investigations are very sensitive, and very private. They take considerable time to investigate properly. We will assuredly protect the identity of all involved in this matter."
