Troy Business Encourages Customers to "Bee" Happy

Garden sign inspired a Bee-themed clothing and accessories business.

Kim Headbloom saw a sign that read "be happy" and it inspired her.

She now inspires others to "bee" happy, playful or grateful with her business beeXpression that sells bee-themed hand towels, clothing and accessories.

Headbloom recently submitted information about the business through the Small Business Spotlight.

A portion of every sale is donated to local, non-profit Sand Castles, a grief and loss support group for children.

When was the business founded?

March 2010

How did your business come to be?

While sitting in my backyard looking at a garden sign that read "be happy", it inspired me to explore that concept further. It was the idea of creating a kind, friendly bumblebee to go with words that encourage, empower and inspire. With the help of friends, family, and a handful of local retailers, beeXpression began to take flight.

Why did you choose the area you did?

Finding a way to support local business was just as important to my vision as empowering kids on a national or even global level. It is important to support the community in which we live and thrive.
