Hobby Histories Offers Facts and Fun at Troy Historic Village

The monthly event features presentations and demonstrations of hobby pastimes, including HAM radio and model trains.

Have you ever wondered how model ship-builders put so much detail into their work, why amateur radio operators are called “Hams” or what makes railroad switches switch? Come to a History of Hobbies night and find out.  

History of Hobbies is a new and exciting Troy Historical Society program sponsored by the Michigan Humanities Council, where experienced enthusiasts come and talk about the history of their hobby and the groups that are engaged in the hobby today.

Presentations are held on the fourth Thursday of the month at 7:30 p.m. at the . Refreshments are  provided, and there is no registration required.

Upcoming programs include:

  • July 26: HAM Radio Night. Local amateur radio operators will demonstrate their equipment and share information about the evolution and technology of this terrific hobby that connects HAMs across great distances.
  • August 23: All Aboard for Model Trains. Join Dave Thonton, president of the Detroit Model Railroad Club, as he talks trains, and enjoy operating different model trains.
