How to Add Your Photos on Patch

Here is an easy step-by-step to uploading photos to Patch.

Uploading a photo to a Patch website is easy and quick, once you know how to do it. Here's a simple how-to for you to follow.

  1. Sign up as a Patch user. To add a photo or other content such as events or announcements, you need to be a registered member of Patch. You can do this by clicking "Sign Up" at the top of the site.
  2. Select the photo you'd like to upload.
  3. All photos should be original, meaning you need to have taken them yourself. Photos should be in a "jpeg" format. This is the most common photo format. If you see an extension of your photo file that says "tif," "gif," "bmp," or something else, look for a way to save your photo in a "jpeg" or "jpg" format.
  4. Photos should be saved, if possible, at a "medium" size and a "resolution" of 72 dpi. If you do not know or have the ability to do this, don't worry too much; our system does some "crunching" for you. But the smaller the size of your image, the quicker it will upload to our site, so for efficiency you may want to keep the file sizes smaller.
  5. To add a photo, click on the link under the current photos that says "Upload photos and videos."
  6. This will take you to your computer files, where you can choose the image you wish to add. Click it.
  7. Your photo will upload, and when it is done the computer will ask you what you want to do next. Click on "edit your new photos." This is where you add your caption information.
  8. Click to add caption information. You may also change the "photo credit" if you need to do so. If someone other than you took the photo, click to change that.
  9. Be sure to include in your caption information about when and where the photo was taken, and fully identify any people in the photo.
  10. If you have any questions, be sure to ask. You can email the editor at top of this site (just click on the name and you'll find an email address) or comment below, and we'll get back to you.

That's it. Easy! Thanks for adding your photos to Patch!
