Is There a Pie That Tastes (and Looks) Like Homemade in Troy?

It's Thanksgiving. You've been given the pie task. Bake or buy, or something in between?

It's Thanksgiving. The family is preparing a feast. Someone asks you to bring pie.

But maybe you don't bake. Or maybe you do but you're too busy to get it done before Nov. 22.

Either way, you need a pie, pronto. Where do you turn?

In Troy, Achatz Handmade Pie Co. and Grand Traverse Pie Company sell whole pies, of course, and you can also pick up pies from various grocery stores around town, including Hollywood Market, Whole Foods and Kroger.

To make it even easier to procure a pie, Achatz is open Wednesday from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. and Thanksgiving from 7 a.m.-1 p.m.; Grand Traverse Pie Co. is open Wednesday from 7 a.m.-8 p.m. and Thanksgiving (pie sales only) from 9 a.m.-noon.

And though we would NEVER advocate lying to family and loved ones, those who choose to go that route can even find directions on the Internet for making your store-bought pie look homemade.

But that's a slippery slope, people. Just fess up and bring the best you can!

Where do you go for your "homemade" (but not really) pie? Tell us in the comments!
