Troy Nature Society Returns Popular “Rent-A-Tap” Program To The Nature Center

With the holiday season in full swing, you may be looking for that extra special gift to give a loved one or maybe just looking to treat yourself.  The Troy Nature Society (TNS) is re-introducing its Rent-A-Tap program at the Lloyd A. Stage Nature Center in Troy.  This sweet syrupy program is all about “renting” a maple tree and receiving a bucket loaded with great maple goodies and other items to enjoy.

All Rent-A-Tap participants will have a name plate posted on a maple tree at the nature center from February 22 through March 30 and will have an opportunity to tap their own maple tree, if they chose to do so, at our Tree Tapping event on Saturday, February 22, 2014.   Each Rent-A-Tap Lease includes a bucket that can be used for tapping a tree at home and contains a spile (for tapping), a pint of pure maple syrup, maple sugar candies, maple syrup cookbook, a copy our Sugar Bush newsletter along with an official “Rent-A-Tap Lease Certificate.”

This unique fundraiser is held in conjunction with the society’s annual Maple Syrup Time-Past & Present program that will run the first three Saturdays in March 2014 (1st, 8th, 15th).  Every year nearly 1,000 guests join us for a guided tour through the trails of the nature center where they learn how maple trees turn sugar in sap, see how sap is collected and turned into maple syrup and enjoy mini-waffles topped with delicious syrup at the end of the tour.

Don’t just give a gift this holiday season - give that special someone a memorable experience while helping support the educational programs and activities of Stage Nature Center.  For information on how to purchase a Rent-A-Tap for $35, please call the nature center at 248.688.9703 or stop by the Lloyd A. Stage Nature Center located at 6685 Coolidge Highway in Troy.  Visit www.troynaturesociety.org for more information and nature center hours.
