Who Supports Janice Daniels?
An examination of campaign finance records reveals who Janice Daniels' supporters are.
We've seen Janice Daniels be cheap and lazy. We've seen Janice Daniels pander and blame others. We've seen Janice Daniels rip off other campaigns.
But there is one question still unanswered.
Who supports Janice Daniels?
When the media heard that Janice Daniels was running for council, everyone sought an interview. Janice, because she blamed the media for her recall, granted a single interview. Responding to a question about why she was running, Janice stated, “A lot of people have asked me to run for office.”
And thanks to campaign finance disclosure laws, we know who these people are.
As it turns out, the largest contributors to the Janice Daniels campaign are...Janice Daniels and her relatives.
According to the documents filed with the Oakland County Clerk, Janice contributed $3,300.13 to her own campaign. Bud Deemer donated $500.00, Mary Deemer donated $200.00, and James Deemer gave $50.00. (Deemer is Janice's maiden name.)
So of the $8095.13 of campaign donations raised, $4,050.13 came from Janice and her relatives.
And there are others.
The gentleman who attacked City Council after the lovely tribute to Maureen McGinnis gave Janice $478.00. The woman who sued Troy and lost gave Janice $50.00. Janice's cohort in the “removal” of lawn signs gave $100.00.
In total, only 60% of the money raised by Janice Daniels was raised in Troy.
(As an aside, beware of relying on Janice's campaign finance report. The Oakland County Clerk examined the report Janice prepared and found found it riddled with errors, despite the fact that Janice brags about earning honors in her business degree program. But why should we be unsurprised? During her time as Mayor, Janice admitted that she found Troy's budget process “overwhelming.”)
But to be fair, let's compare Janice's donations to some of the other candidates. When it comes to support from Troy, Ellen Hodorek is the clear winner, with 98% of her donations coming from Troy Residents. Ed Pennington is in second place, with 76% being from Troy. Wade Fleming comes in third, with 60% of his contributors living in Troy.
So now you know who supports Janice Daniels. People who don't care for the decorum of the council chamber, people who bring unnecessary lawsuits against the city, and people who invest their time to causing problems for this city.
