Real Estate Group to Host Food Drive in Troy

Donations will benefit the Gleaners Community Food Bank.

A Southfield-based real estate group wil host a "Christmas in January" food drive Thursday in Troy to benefit Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan.

From 8 a.m.-3 p.m., representatives of the Farbman Group will be at to collect nonperishable items. Recommended donations are peanut butter and canned tuna, salmon, chicken, ham, stew, chili, beef ravioli and beans. There is also a need for healthful snacks for children, such as granola bars, pretzels, juice boxes and fruit cups.

The Christmas in January theme "is aimed at raising awareness for community outreach all year long," a press release from the organization says. This will be the third year for the food drive.

"The first two years we’ve hosted our Christmas in January food drive, we collected thousands of pounds of food and cash donations to feed hungry people in southeast Michigan," Farbman Group President Andrew V. Farbman said in the release. "We are thankful for the generosity of our tenants and for the community coming together again this year to help our neighbors in need this winter."

A truck will be set up outside Sheffield Office Park to store the donations.
