Crack Pipe Found on Shoplifting Suspect, Troy Police Say

The following information about police incidents is taken directly from the most recent Troy Police Department media releases.

Breaking and entries

Sonic, 124 John R Rd., Jan. 18, 4–5:15 a.m.: Employee advised when he arrived at work he found the safe was wide open and the cash drawer was empty.  No signs of breaking and entering.  The amount missing from the safe was $1,552.

Credit, check, identity theft, other fraud

900 block of Grand Vista Court, Jan. 6-14, 12 noon: Resident reported someone opened a Verizon account and received five phones using his information.

1000 block of Woodside, Jan. 2, 9 a.m.: Resident reported someone opened a Verizon cell phone account using his information without his permission.

600 block of Creston, Jan. 17-18, 9 p.m. to 9 a.m.: Resident reported she had four unauthorized charges to her debit card totaling $138.79.

Drugs/narcotics

Rochester Road and Badder Street, Jan. 14, 11:59 a.m.: Officers patrolling the area observed an occupied vehicle in a lot. Officers approached the vehicle and observed a bag of marijuana on the center console. The suspect, a 28-year-old from Royal Oak was cited for possession of marijuana.

Rochester Road and South Boulevard Road, Jan. 16, 11:47 p.m.: Officers stopped a vehicle for speeding. Officers could detect an odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. The driver advised he had a “joint” in his center console. Officers retrieved the “joint” and cited the 25-year-old driver from Rochester Hills for possession of marijuana.  

Driving under influence of alcohol/drugs

John R Road and West Fourteen Mile Road, Jan. 16, 12:29 a.m.: Officers stopped a vehicle for a red light violation. The driver had a strong odor of alcohol coming from her person. The driver had slurred speech and admitted to drinking. The driver, a 23-year-old from Royal Oak, was arrested for operating while intoxicated. Breath test results were .22 percent.

Rochester Road and Rankin Street, Jan. 16, 1:49 a.m.: Officers stopped a vehicle for a red light violation. The vehicle had an odor of intoxicants coming from the interior. The driver admitted to drinking and failed field sobrieties. The driver, a 31-year-old from Royal Oak, was arrested for operating while intoxicated. Breath test results were .16 percent.

Interstate-75 and Rochester Road, Jan. 16, 4:05 a.m.: Officers were dispatched on a possible drunk driver. Witness stated the vehicle almost struck him. Officers located the vehicle and observed the vehicle weaving heavily and driving very slowly on the freeway. Upon a traffic stop the driver had glassy eyes and failed field sobrieties. Officers located a small baggie containing crystal meth and prescription Adderall in the driver’s coat. The driver, a 44-year-old from Royal Oak, was arrested for possession of methamphetamine, operating under the presence of drugs, and no operator’s license. A blood draw was conducted with results pending.

West Fourteen Mile Road and John R Road, Jan. 17, 12:59 a.m.: Officers were advised by a witness that a vehicle was stopped in the intersection and the driver was passed out at the wheel. Officers located the vehicle with the engine on and in “drive.” The driver was asleep at the wheel and had to be roused by officers. The driver had bloodshot glassy eyes and a suspended license. Officers detected an odor of marijuana; however the driver said he did not have any. The driver, a 34-year-old from Detroit, failed field sobrieties and was arrested for operating under the presence of drugs and driving on a suspended license. A blood draw was conducted with results pending.

Rochester Road and Interstate-75, Jan. 19, 1:47 a.m.: Officers stopped a vehicle for a red light violation. Officers detected an odor of intoxicants coming from inside the vehicle. The driver admitted to drinking and failed field sobrieties. The driver, a 42-year-old from Macomb, was arrested for operating while intoxicated (third offense). A blood draw was conducted with result pending.

Home invasion

2000 block of Radcliffe Drive, Jan. 17, 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.: Residents reported they arrived home and observed the rear sliding glass door shattered. Officers and residents searched the home but did not find anything missing.

Larcenies

NBC Universal 3001 W. Big Beaver Rd., Jan. 14-15, 11 p.m. to 8 a.m.: Complainant advised three Dell laptop computers had been stolen from the office.  There were no signs of forced entry into the office.

500 block of E. Big Beaver Rd., Jan. 11-15, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.: Several residents reported their storage lockers being broken into. Complainants reported clothing and luggage were missing.

Oakland Mall, 412 W. 14 Mile Rd., Jan. 9, 3:15 p.m.: Complainant advised she used the restroom at the mall and while washing her fingers placed her diamond ring on the counter. The complainant left the restroom and then realized she forgot her ring. She returned and the ring was missing. The ring was valued at $39,085.

Larcenies from autos

There were eight reported larcenies from autos:
  • GPS taken from an unlocked vehicle
  • GPS and $40 cash was taken from another vehicle
  • laptop and GPS from vehicle parked in the drive
  • in dash radio, GPS and AMPs
  • Laptop and flash drives
  • Two prescription medication bottles
  • Catalytic converter
  • DVD system, GPS and center caps off all four wheels

Miscellaneous 

Macy’s, 500 W. 14 Mile Rd., Jan. 17, 8:53 p.m.: Loss prevention advised officers there was a known retail fraud suspect in the store. The suspect concealed items and left the store as officers approached with emergency equipment flashing.  The suspect jumped into a vehicle and the vehicle fled. Officers were able to stop the vehicle and apprehend the driver and suspect. The suspect, a 30-year-old from Adrian, was found to have all the merchandise on his person and a pipe used to smoke crack cocaine. The suspect was arrested for second-degree retail fraud, obstructing police, and possession of narcotic paraphernalia. The driver, a 23-year-old from Monroe, was arrested for fleeing and eluding and possession of prescription drugs.

1000 block of Rochester Road, Jan. 18, 2:30-5:30 a.m.: Officers responded twice to a noise complaint advising the resident to turn down his music. On the second call officers cited the 59-year-old resident for violation of noise during prohibited hours.
