Cars Broken Into Overnight; Minors and Alcohol at School and More

The following information about police incidents is taken directly from the most recent Troy Police Department media releases.

Credit, check, identity theft, other fraud

Sears, 300 West Fourteen Mile Road, July 29, 3:57 p.m.: Loss prevention advised the suspect, a 42-year-old Detroit resident, was completing a purchase for $1,215.90 with a Sears credit card that was identified as a fraudulent credit card. The suspect was arrested for fraudulent use of a credit card.

Drugs/narcotics

Petruzzellos, 6950 Rochester Road, July 30, 11:30 p.m.: Troy Officers observed two cars parked in the lot while the business was closed. Officers approached the vehicle with the odor of burnt marijuana hanging in the air. The Officer found three suspects who had recently smoked marijuana. The first suspect, a 19-year-old Rochester Hills resident, had a medical marijuana card, however was in violation of the card for smoking it in a public place and was issued a ticket for the violation. The second suspect, a 19-year-old Troy resident, was found to be in possession of narcotic paraphernalia and was issued a ticket for the violation. The third suspect, a 16-year-old Clinton Township resident was released to a parent.

Driving under influence of alcohol/drugs

Dequindre and Fourteen Mile Road, July 31, 2:51 a.m.: Troy Officers stopped a vehicle without a license plate. The driver, identified as a 40-year-old Des Moines, Iowa resident was observed to have a strong odor of alcoholic beverage from his breath. The driver failed field sobriety tests and was arrested for operating while intoxicated. A blood draw was conducted with results pending.

Larcenies

Sylvan Glen Park, 5501 Rochester Road, July 29, 9:26 p.m.: Complainant reported she parked her 2006 Jeep in the lot. When she returned to her vehicle she discovered her purse missing. The purse had been under the driver’s seat.

LA Fitness, 710 East Big Beaver, July 27, 12 noon to 2 p.m.: Complainant advised his locker was broken into at the gym. His wallet was stolen containing credit cards and $150 in cash.

Larcenies from autos

Enterprise Leasing, 2855 West Maple, July 27-29, 1 p.m. to 6 a.m.: Employee advised sometime over the weekend thieves stole the hood, fenders, bumper, grille and lights from a 2014 Chevrolet Cruz. The estimated cost of damage and theft is $5,000.

100 block of Coachman, July 29-30, 11 p.m. to 12 noon: Complainant advised her 2014 Lincoln MKX was parked in the lot overnight. When she returned to her vehicle she discovered her driver’s side rear window was smashed and an Xbox 360 and shoes were stolen from the vehicle.

Malicious destruction of property

1800 block of Dorchester, July 29, 8:30 a.m.: Troy Officers responded to seven complainants of emblems being stolen off vehicles parked in the lot overnight.

5000 block of Blair, July 29-30: Resident reported the driver’s side window smashed out of his vehicle parked in front of the house overnight.

2000 block of Highbury, July 29-30, 10 p.m. to 8 a.m.: Resident reported his driver’s side window was smashed overnight while parked in the street.

5000 block of Patterson, July 30, 12 midnight to 7 a.m.: Complainant reported his vehicle was parked in the street and the driver’s side window was smashed sometime overnight.

4000 block of Allegheny, July 30, 3:15 to 4 a.m.: Complainant advised her vehicle was parked in the street and the driver side window was smashed out. Nothing appeared to be stolen.

Minors and alcohol

Costello Elementary, 1333 Harman, July 29, 10:33 p.m.: Troy Officers responded to a noise complainant in the parking lot. Officers observed a vehicle in the school lot with two suspects inside. The driver, a 19-year-old Troy resident had the odor of alcohol on his breath and slurred speech while talking to Officers. Officers also detected an odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. The second suspect, an 18-year-old Sterling Heights resident had slurred speech and an odor of alcohol coming from his breath. The driver admitted he had marijuana inside the vehicle. The first suspect was issued a ticket for minor in possession, possession of marijuana, and possession of narcotic paraphernalia. The second suspect was issued a ticket for minor in possession of alcohol.

Retail fraud

Kohl’s, 1265 Coolidge Highway, July 29, 2:43 p.m.: Loss prevention advised two suspects, a 46-year-old and a 48-year-old Roseville resident, were observed selecting 30 pairs of jeans and placing them in a shopping cart. The suspects then pushed the cart out of the store failing to pay for the jeans. The suspects were stopped and the merchandise valued at $1,205.95 was recovered. Both suspects were arrested for retail fraud.
