Troy Police Arrest Man for Driving Under the Influence with Toddler

The following information was obtained from the Troy Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The following information about recent incidents of drunken driving and driving under the influence is taken directly from the most recent Troy Police Department media release. Note: In Michigan, the blood alcohol content legal limit is .08 percent.

Rochester Rd. and E. Long Lake Rd. at  10:04 a.m. on April 19: Troy Officers were dispatched to the area when two different citizens reported that they were following a suspected drunk driver. The vehicle was reported to be swerving all over the roadway. An officer located the vehicle, confirmed it was swerving, and made a traffic stop. The driver was a 36-year-old male from Sterling Heights. A toddler was also in the in the car. The driver thought he was at Dequindre near Wattles. He stated he was coming from Long Lake and Dequindre. Both civilian witnesses had followed the suspect vehicle from I-75. Narcotic paraphernalia associated with heroin use was found in the vehicle. The driver failed sobriety tests and was arrested for operating under the influence of narcotics and child endangerment. A blood test was administered and results are pending. The toddler was turned over to a parent.

E. Maple Rd. and Dequindre Rd. at  12:06 a.m. on April 20:  Troy Officers were dispatched to the area when a citizen reported that the vehicle in front of her was driving all over the roadway and had struck a couple of mailboxes. Troy Officers located and stopped the vehicle. They confirmed that the vehicle had accident damage on the passenger side. The driver had bloodshot/glassy eyes, was unsteady on her feet and was slurring her words. The 44-year-old Sterling Heights resident failed all sobriety tests and was arrested for operating while intoxicated. Breath test results were .20 percent. Officers located and made contact with the homeowners whose mailboxes had been damaged.

Dequindre Rd. and E. Big Beaver Rd. at 1:32 a.m. on April 20:  A Troy Officer was dispatched to the area when a citizen reported a vehicle was all over the road and bouncing off curbs. The officer located the vehicle and confirmed it was weaving badly. The driver had slurred speech, red/watery eyes and smelled strongly of intoxicants. The 23-year-old Sterling Heights male failed sobriety tests and was arrested. In the Troy Lock-up facility, one and a half prescription pain killers were found in his coat pocket. He admitted that he did not have a prescription for the medication. Breath test results were .19 percent. He was charged with operating while intoxicated and possession of a controlled substance.

Rochester Rd. and E. Big Beaver Rd. at 2:07 a.m. on April 20:  Officers were dispatched to the area after a citizen reported a possible domestic dispute occurring in a vehicle. Officers found the suspect vehicle pulled behind an area restaurant. They determined that no domestic dispute had occurred. The passenger in the vehicle admitted that the driver had been pulling her back into the vehicle after she attempted to exit the vehicle while it was still moving. She appeared to be highly intoxicated. The driver had glassy/red eyes and slurred speech. He smelled of intoxicants and was unsteady on his feet. The 48-year-old Warren resident failed sobriety tests and was arrested for operating while intoxicated. Breath test results were .17 percent.

E. South Blvd. and John R Rd. at 6 a.m. on April 20: Troy Officers stopped to check on a vehicle that was running, however stopped in the roadway on an angle. Officers found the vehicle had extensive front end damage and the driver’s airbag had deployed. Officers banged on the window to wake up the driver and noted a strong odor of intoxicants when she opened the car door. The 24-year-old resident of Harrison Township thought she was at 13 Mile and Woodward and believed the time to be between three and four am. Following an investigation, she was arrested for operating while intoxicated, with breath test results of .15 percent. Officers were unable to determine what the woman’s vehicle had struck. She was not injured in the accident.

W. Big Beaver Rd. and Livernois Rd. at 9:40 p.m. on April 21: A vehicle was stopped after a Troy Officer observed it speeding and disregarding a stop sign. The driver smelled very strongly of intoxicants and had glassy/bloodshot eyes. The 43-year-old Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida woman exhibited poor balance and failed sobriety tests. She was arrested for operating while intoxicated and breath test results were .19 percent.

Rochester Rd. and E. Big Beaver Rd. at 11:11 p.m. on April 21: After a Troy Officer stopped a vehicle for making a prohibited turn the officer noted that the driver had slurred speech. The 22-year-old Fraser woman was unable to correctly recite the alphabet, despite three attempts, and had poor balance. She was arrested for operating while intoxicated, with breath test results of .19 percent.

Hartland Dr. and Troy Dr. at 1:01 a.m. on April 22: A Troy Officer stopped a vehicle that was observed speeding and weaving. When the officer made contact with the driver she said she was swerving because the steering on her car was bad. The 31-year-old Troy resident smelled of intoxicants and had poor balance. She failed sobriety tests and was arrested for operating while intoxicated, with breath test results of .12 percent.

W. Big Beaver Rd. and Wilshire Dr. at 3:18 a.m. on April 22: A Troy Officer stopped a vehicle observed to be swerving. The driver had bloodshot/glassy eyes, slurred speech and smelled of intoxicants. The 46-year-old Harrison Township woman was unable to correctly recite the alphabet and had poor balance. She was arrested for operating while intoxicated, with breath test results of .10 percent.
