Father Arrested in Homicide Death of 3-Month-Old Troy Baby

First responders found the infant girl unresponsive on the floor of a Troy home Monday while the father stood nearby.

The father of a 3-month-old infant who died Monday has been arrested and his daughter's death ruled a homicide, according to a media release from the Troy Police Department.

The Oakland County Medical Examiner ruled the baby girl's death a homicide by blunt force trauma.

Officers responding to a 911 call about an "unresponsive" baby just after 2 a.m. Monday were met outside the Troy home by the hysterical mother, who directed officers to the basement of the home.

According to the media release, officers found the infant "lying on a rug on the floor of the bedroom with the father standing several feet away." Alliance Ambulance medical personnel arrived with the officers, picked up the baby, began CPR and immediately transported her to St. John's Hospital Oakland. The baby was pronounced dead at 3:04 a.m.

The Oakland County Medical Examiners Officer conducted an autopsy on Monday, and based on their findings, the cause of death was ruled a homicide by blunt force trauma.

The investigation has resulted in the arrest of the father, who is currently in custody at the Troy Police Department. Police anticipate that a request for a warrant will be submitted to the Oakland County Prosecutors Office sometime Wednesday.

The Troy Police Department's investigation is ongoing, and they are not releasing further information at this time.

I am so sad about the death of this little one-Why, Dad?
janelle vandermerwe October 24, 2012 at 03:41 PM
I know this father and his family, he would not have hurt her. please dont put any comments as such!
Fred October 24, 2012 at 04:20 PM
This is atrocious, as a father I cannot even comprehend the loss. It makes me sick to my stomach to hear or read about stories like this, whoever the guilty party is deserves the death penalty...a child who cannot defend itself (or anyone else for that matter) in which this happens to, the violator should reap the death penalty...please bring it back...people that commit these crimes have no place on this earth.

Umm... It sure looks like he absolutely did hurt her - and kill her. It would seem the man you know has now restraint and most likely could not get her to stop crying/screaming. Now the mother & family is devastated, daughter is dead, and he will be going to prison. You have to know when to walk away - you cannot reason with a screaming infant!!
janelle vandermerwe October 24, 2012 at 05:44 PM
Stop speculating. You dont know the full story, he never would hurt her. I have known him for almost 15 years. The mother does not blame him. Stop talking smack untill the whole story is unfolded.

Talking smack. You sound really reasonable and mature. Did the baby trip while walking down the stairs??????????

Janelle - I can tell you're hurting for your friends and what they're going through and that's why you're defending him, but regardless of what happened, if the media isn't releasing their names, you shouldn't put these posts on here or on FB (which included their names). My heart breaks for everyone involved and I'm praying for all of you.

All, please refrain from speculating as to what has happened in this case. The father, while he has been arrested and is being held, has not yet been charged with a crime. And last I checked, you're innocent until proven guilty here in America. And please keep in mind that, no matter how it happened, a little girl is dead and there are many people mourning her right now. This is a sensitive, tragic story. Please keep that in mind before you post a comment. Thank you.

You have no idea the horror this story has struck on our family we don't understand
Stephanie Hahn October 25, 2012 at 08:49 AM
How has he landed in custody if they have no evidence on him being guilty,
Stephanie Hahn October 25, 2012 at 10:43 AM
Very nicely said!! I couldn't agree more my friend and I just had this discussion today on the death penalty
Barbara Koehn October 25, 2012 at 09:08 PM
Janelle-Everyone is innocent until proven guilty by a jury of their peers. My heart goes out to you and your friends and their families. Children don't ask to be born, as parents, we must do all we can to keep them safe, love them and help them grow. I can not begin to fathom how this little one died. She can't tell us, only the evidence will. She flies high with the angels.

I was simply stating that in a case such as this, the death of a innocent, defenseless child, there should be they death penalty for the quilty party (or parties). That is all. I think we should put it on a ballot and let the people have they say. I for one would for sure vote yes on that. How many others would?

what the hell is wrong with this world we live in? If i ever suspected the father of my infant son on murdering or harming my child, none the less murdering my child, the cops would be hauling my butt off to jail as well. I dont understand how anything like this can even happen....its so barbaric..i dont care what anyone says, if any proof at all points to the father, i hope he gets prosecuted and given the needle...end of story. 3 months old? no excuses

The ignorance of most of the people making comments is really extraordinary.

As I read all the angry and hateful comments I feel even more sad for this family that is struggling with a terrible tragedy. I can understand that you may want to judge the father but no amount of anger or hatred or threats of violence can bring back the child. It really is not productive for you or the family. I would humbly suggest that love and compassion, prayers and a financial donation for the funeral would be much better for all involved. Another thing to keep in mind is that none of us have any idea of the details of what transpired. The mental health of the father may have contributed. Please keep this in mind when considering the need for health care for all people. It is up to all of us to care for each other. We are all connected and the web of responsibility for the events that we experience and witness is much wider than you may care to imagine.

Janelle Vandermerwe, you are in denial. Police don't just arrest people without eveidence. Jerry Sandusky's frirnds and family thinks he's innocent as well.
Autumn Frost December 07, 2012 at 02:04 AM
They're also collecting evidence that states a few other possible ways she could have passed. One video mentioned a possible accident with her big brother, age 1+, though I don't know if that's true. Plenty of innocent people are arrested - saying that now. People all grieve in different ways, and if his method of grieving was even a little bit suspicious then that can be enough in some cases.
Autumn Frost December 07, 2012 at 02:08 AM
Perhaps it's better to wait to see if he's convicted before saying such hateful things. Or better yet, let's not say them at all. There are people here mourning that had nothing to do with this little girl's death - let's not make that harder than it is.

I know this family, so people dont jump to call guilty so fast. There is always a story that is true and then there is gossip and then the one the media tells. That father loved his little daughter, and lets not forget that the police know more about who was in that home then you do. Dont jump so fast to judge, you all wouldnt want someone doing that to you would you? People get scared sometimes when faced with the police, and react in many ways. The police lock innocent people all the time until they find out they are innocent or dont find it out because of nothing but fear. So in that case innocent people go to jain because the cops dont beleive them because of there actions or they are intimidated by the police and tell them anything because they tell them what they feel they have to. Sometimes you cant even trust family members not to grand stand just to look important. Sometimes there is a sickness involved. However I am praying for this young couple that loved there little baby. Please dont ever think you know it all, all we can do is thrust God. He is the only one that knows all.

Kendalyn will be remembered at the Million March Against Child Abuse on April 22nd at the Oakland County Courthouse. Every child who lost their life due to child abuse in 2012 will be remembered. We will be the voice for those who have none.
