Hamtramck Man Arrested for Having Police Lights On His Escalade

The man used used the lights to pull over a driver he felt had cut him off, according to Troy Police.

A 23-year-old Hamtramck man was arrested Saturday after he pulled over another driver using illegal red and blue police lights in Troy, according to a media release from the Troy Police Department.

A citizen reported just after 10 p.m. Saturday that a Cadillac Escalade had pulled up behind him and flashed red and blue lights, according to the media release. When he pulled over, the car sped around him and drove off.

The driver who was pulled over called Troy police and began following the Cadillac, which he believed may have been impersonating a police officer, according to the media release. A Troy officer located and stopped both vehicles.

The Cadillac was found to have red and blue lights in the grille area, which is prohibited by Troy city ordinance. The 23-year-old Hamtramck man admitted he activated the lights, telling police he was upset because "he felt the other driver had cut him off," according to the media release.

The man was arrested for possession of flashing, oscillating or rotating red/blue lights.
