Man Attempts to Steal $12,000 Cartier Watch from Saks Fifth Avenue

The following information was supplied by the Troy Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The following is a recap of recent news from the Troy Police Department.

A 19-year-old Detroit man is in custody after attempting to steal a $12,000 Cartier watch from Saks Fifth Avenue at the Somerset Collection on Jan.17, according to a Troy Police report. A sales associate told police that Dequan Oshay Williams approached the sales counter just before 4 p.m. and asked to see the watch, offering a fraudulent driver's license as his identification.

According to the report, once Williams had placed the watch partially on his wrist, he ran from the sales counter. As a Saks Loss Prevention Officer and a security guard attempt to apprehend him, Williams bit the officer and sprayed him with red pepper spray in an attempt to escape, the report stated. After a struggle, Williams was detained as police took him into custody. On Jan. 18, he was arraigned on one count of armed robbery and bond was set at $200,000 cash.
