Man Tries to Enter Freeway Exit Ramp, is Arrested; Bike Tires Flattened at Costello Elementary

Man tries to enter freeway via exit ramp, is arrested

A Troy Police officer noticed a vehicle driving west down Big Beaver in the eastbound lanes of the divided road. The officer was able to stop the driver as he attempted to enter Interstate 75 using the exit ramp.

The driver smelled of intoxicants, according to a police report, and admitted to police he had smoked marijuana an hour before he was stopped. The 23-year-old Sterling Heights man was arrested for operating under the influence of liquor and narcotics and driving while license suspended.

The man also had several outstanding warrants for his arrest from other jurisdictions. The passenger in the vehicle, a 28-year-old Detroit man, was also arrested for possession of marijuana and open intoxicants in a motor vehicle. Results from a blood test on the driver are pending.

Man discovers home invasion

A resident returned to his home on the 5000 block of John R to discover someone had broken a rear glass window to his home and ransacked two bedrooms. According to police, cash was stolen from the home.

Man caught allegedly stealing scrap metal

A Troy officer noticed a suspicious truck backed up to a fenced yard just before midnight Thursday at 1064 Naughton, where a complaint had been made earlier this week about car bumpers being stolen. The officer saw a man jump the fence and disappear into the yard while a woman was found ducking down in the truck's front seat and another man was seen running toward Rochester Road.

The man who hopped the fence was found hiding under a trailer in the yard. The 22-year-old Clinton Township man was arrested on outstanding warrants from other jurisdictions.

According to Troy Police, the bed of the truck contained a large amount of scrap metal. A Troy Police Detective is investigating the origin of the scrap metal, and additional charges are pending.

Catalytic converters stolen from employee vehicles

Three employees at 550 Stephenson reported the catalytic converters were cut off and taken from their vehicles March 15 while they were at work.

Bicycle tires flattened at elementary school

A woman reported Tuesday that when her two children got out of school, they discovered someone had flattened the tires on their bicycles. The tires were damaged and would not re-inflate.

On Thursday, the same woman reported that a third child of hers came out of school to discover their bicycle tire had also been punctured, according to police.
