Police Blotter: Criminals Target Open Garages, Unlocked Vehicles

Vehicle theft

Police said a 2008 Yamaha racing motorcycle was stolen between 8:30 p.m. Wednesday and 5:40 a.m. Thursday from a trailer lot in the 2000 block of Somerset.

Home invasions

About 3:50 a.m. Wednesday, patrol officers observed an open garage door in the 1000 block of Crestline. Police said a passenger door of a 2008 Chrysler Sebring parked in the garage was ajar and that the vehicle had an open trunk lid. Officers notified the homeowner. Police said the dashboard was damaged in an apparent attempt to remove the stereo. A laptop computer and bag were taken from the back seat, according to a police report.

Police said similar home invasions were discovered Wednesday on the same street and the 3000 block of Sherwood and the 3000 block of Wakefield. Police said navigational units, iPods and coins were stolen from unlocked vehicles parked in garages at the locations.

Larceny

Police said a person reported jewelry stolen between 10 p.m. Tuesday and 7:30 a.m. Wednesday from the locker room at Lifetime Fitness, 4700 Investment.

Larcenies from autos

Police said a navigation unit was stolen between 10 p.m. Tuesday and 7:30 a.m. Wednesday from a 2010 Chevrolet Trailblazer in the 3000 block of Talbot. Police also said an iPod and garage door opener were stolen during the same time frame from a Ford F-150 pickup in the same area. Both vehicles were unlocked and parked in driveways.
