Police: Pick-Pockets Working Michigan Retail Stores

From Troy to Lansing to Grand Rapids and in between, a pair of pick-pockets are targeting women carrying large, easily accessed purses.

A pair of artful pick-pockets used an unsuspecting shopper’s credit card to buy gift cards at big box department stores in the latest in string of thefts that have occurred in the Detroit metro area, Grand Rapids, Lansing and other areas of the state.

The latest theft occurred when a man distracted a 58-year-old woman shopping at the Kohl’s store in Troy and asked her questions about his grandmother while his partner reached into her pose and lifted her wallet, WXYZ, Channel 7, reports.

According to surveillance video, the man is believed to be in his 40s. The female suspect was wearing hospital scrubs. A third suspect is believed to have driven the getaway car, possibly a red Pontiac Grand Am.

Troy Police Sgt. Troy Breidenich warned women to be cautious, especially if they’re carrying large, over-the-shoulder purses that aren’t zipped or properly closed.
